Member ChicagoNative Posted March 7, 2012 Member Report Share Posted March 7, 2012 I am retopologizing over a voxel base. I am exporting as an STL file that I will send to a 3D printer. I need to make sure that the width of the this particular object is 80mm. When I use the MEASURE tool, it gives me a number: 156.4549 I have units set to cm. Something is wrong. The exported STL mesh is not 156.4569 centimeters. Can anyone tell me how to resize the voxel object to 80mm wide , so that the mesh will be 80mm wide? Member paololobbia Posted March 8, 2012 Member Report Share Posted March 8, 2012 Hi Chicagonative, Just save the mesh as an .obj file and then import it into Rhino3D. Scale it to the right size and save it as an .stl file Here's the download link. http://download.rhino3d.com/rhino/4.0/evaluation/download/
Member ChicagoNative Posted March 8, 2012 Author Member Report Share Posted March 8, 2012 I have Lightwave so I can do that as a workaround. No one here seems to know if it is possible to model to an exact size in voxels. Maybe it is not possible?
Advanced Member spacepainter Posted March 9, 2012 Advanced Member Report Share Posted March 9, 2012 Through trial and error it's probably possible but the scaling changes when i export to shapeways for additive production. I have not found how to control this.
