Layer0 with outOpacity set to 0, then the top layers you can paint anything and create masks for opacity.

Hey, is the issue with 3DC not remembering stroke types in Sculpting room, Retopo room and possibly in other rooms fixed in version 2026.18? Also, previous versions of 2026 lineup were overwriting user folders during update, is that still the case with 2026.18? Oh, version 2026.16 have issues with selecting objects with H key - quite often it's picking wrong object and some cursor flickering occurs. One more thing, not so big, but there is a long standing issue with symmetry plane size when switching from Render room to other rooms - it becomes way too big. Pretty distracting.

This issue was solved on latest version
    • VRNardodaVinci
They seem to just ignore these issues completely and not even bother to reply.

Carlosan is correct on layer 0, its best to hide layer 0  and do the work on layer 1. When you hide layer 0 , layer 1 shows up ( makes one think the layer 0 is visible). Layer 1 I have the nodes material, out material and then turn down material opacity on layer 1. Add layer 2 add the material set color and out material then paint and erase.

@IHearNoise you must turn off Layer0 and paint on other channels Avoid painting anything on Layer0: In 3DCoat, Layer 0 acts as the base foundation layer (similar to a background layer in Photoshop) and contains the mesh's default data and base coat for baking. You should avoid painting directly on Layer 0 for any purpose

Im not having issues with transparency in either the Legacy or on newest other. Im running 3dcoat  a A5000 card The newest version requires most everything to be assigned to a node. IE layer 0 I have a material and out material. In the material, I change the opacity to 0 and the base material in 0 is transparent. Level 1  I do the same except leave the opacity at 100. I right click on the layer 1 to fill layer.  Now when you use the erase brush layer 1 it will work. Out opacity works also on layer 0 Some of the legacy items on the menu bars no longer work with newest using nodes. Those features are now in the nodes.

Another workaround is.. In layer0 you can create a node outOpacity and It will manage the opacity.

Transparency seems to work on legacy version.. altough a bit buggy it seems. When you start to erase parts of the mesh, some square artifacts appear.

Thanks, i actually just found that by moving any ball a bit and then i clicking in the middle between 2 red balls that actually creates a new one. Weird because is only the move tool but it makes what i was trying to do. Thanks

Bezier Composite interpolation let you add point to curves using Ctrl+LMB   sadly, the spacing between splines can't be increased
    • Carlosan
Doing a simple flat painting with flat shading, is better to use Legacy version Turn Layer0 off for transparency is working fine on that version
    • Britain
Have you tried turning on mask on the layer your working on? This will allow painting and erasing on that layer.
    • pedro8999
Hi there!, I am using the splines with curves tool and i realized that i wanted to change the shape at the beggining, so i want to know if i can subdivide the points to add new ones between two points and that way modify the part where the profile beings. But the tool ( curves ) only allows me to extrude, move, rotate and scale. Note: i didn't create any curve for what you see in the images below, i directly select a spline model and start addings points with ( snap to surface ). And my other question is, can i increase the spacing between splines? that way i don't have too many "connection parts". Thanks Images attached
    • IHearNoise
I'm doing a simple flat painting with flat shading. I'm not using any curvature maps etc.. and having one shouldn't be needed here. Having transparency on a part of mesh should be as easy as erasing that part of a mesh on a layer 0. As I mentioned earlier, transparency works on version 2025.17, but not on newer 2026 versions.

Tried a few different combos nothing. White = 1 usually eases which it does here. Regardless of what alpha brush you use.  I need to find the brush which will paint back on. Using a Black = 0 should reapply I would guess but, doesn't.  Even using invert which actually doesn't do anything. One issue is using the Curvature the erase will erase through all layers when you paint.  In any regards one should have the ability to erase from a single layer only.

Add a mask to curvature map help ?
    • Britain
Using the curvature map to erase is destructive. Once you erase you can only ctrl z to remove. I havent found a way to paint over to erase the erase. If you have saved and brough back you need to delete the curvature map and start over.  Can someone confirm this is a possible bug?
