Agree with the points made by AbnRanger. Even with my personal style of work being abstract I frequently push the limits of my machine (i7 920 8GB)
Starting to get quite annoyed with overnight calculations that have hung.
Started to calculate the potential cost benefit of blowing the annual bonus on Zbrush or Mudbox. Don't tell the girlfriend but.

Going to be the Meats Meir of 3DC, eh?...
Heh I'd love too

Just a tip for people not aware, photoshop .ABR brushes can be used as brushes in 3D Coat quite happily

hehe yeah it was a bit funny just doodling my way to the end result on autopilot & realising it was a little on the odd side
SpacePilot is very tempting, the 'but' is we're building a house which just had the first site works this week! things are little but tight at the moment so we'll see what's leftover in a few months. fingers crossed.

Awesome result! Welcome to 3DCoat, wave goodbye to your freetime as you're clearly about to become a fellow addict. *cackles madly*

hehe, yes indeed the secret is wrap! multiple subtle twists keep me entertained. It lead to a desire for a modifier cage as per poly-modelling (thread in 'feature requests')
For now I take some stuff out to a poly modeller Hexagon to perform soft-selection style bending & the like.

Yes a great, simple idea with immediate benefits. I actually went looking for this on the weekend as I'd convinced myself it existed.
+1

Remember that pressing ALT+Enter activates true "fullscreen" mode and gives 3DCoat the highest 'priority' as an application, with respect to any operation that uses the video card.
ALT+tab to other apps from this mode may take a while during intensive operations but it still works.

Andrew, just curious if there would there be any chance for a comment on this?

I'd thought that if the existing twist and bend tool works so well without introducing artifacts/errors then a modifier cage is just a variation on that idea - allowing an ability to direct & steer the areas of interest.
At the end of the day is just another way to manipulate voxels using a method other than brush tools.
-
cheers, thought it probably was but am shying away speculation this week as bit me on the bum already

Hey Phil - I don't really understand what's behind the freeform primitives that'd explain why the have a deform mesh but other voxel forms can't?

Voted most romantic holiday destination for 14 years in a row, the facility offered exclusivity, privacy and choice of fertility treatments. PanGalatics latest packages were soon sold out and desperate trades were often conducted via black market deals.

I think you're onto something here, I often flirt with the twist & bend tools hoping for a nice random result that I could just 'direct' instead with a deform cage. I've exported out of 3dCoat into Hexagon before just to use the better soft-selection tools, then taken that back into 3D Coat.
Gets my vote for sure.
Nice thinking

Thank you all for those warm comments!
A couple of days ago, I came back from France where my film "MRDRCHAIN" has won the Canal+ award at the International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand. For those living in the Paris area, there will be a screening of the film at the "Forum des Images" this weekend:
Cheers
Ondrej
Congratulations on your Award!

No worries
Just as a further tip I found a case when this 'failsafe' strategy didn't resolve a critical error on launch I started getting after a new release installation. Something had gone wrong and I rolled back version after version but each crashed the moment I selected Voxel room.
Debugged with Andrew's help and it turned out had a corrupt Options.xml - this file is kept on my system at
Libraries->Documents->3D-CoatV3
Can be good to check here in case of catastrophic failure

Hi Digiman - you can run more than one version on your system. Not both at once of course.
I keep four versions in seperate directories with one linked "brush/pens/textures' directory to save on filespace.
I prefer to download beta releases a week or so after announced, just to let others do the hard work on testing & reporting issues for me
(if that sounds selfish I only get time at night for my love affair with mistress 3d Coat)

Sounds a great deal to me, good pricing and the prize is a good sweetener. I've owned the Intuos4 Small for a few months now and have been really happy with how well it functions - easy to learn too and it soon becomes second-nature.

Very nice indeed. I often find myself going overboard with painting this sort of skin, I love the result you have here.
What benefit do you find from your workflow with Corel Painter & photoshop? What advantage to painting within 3DCoat?
Cheers,

Fantastic result!
