  1. Well then, I didn't know you were trying to download a different DVD that isn't related to the DVD in this thread. I assumed you were talking about the voxel sculpting video. ;)

Anyway, KURV has solved the problem and you should all be good to go right now. Check out his above posts for more information on that. Sounds like the host server was going wonky!! DOH.

Sorry... I thought I was posting about the same video... DOH...my mistake....

  2. kenmo, the file is 3.7GB, not 1.1GB. You should try to resume your download as you don't have the full file.

Also, why waste your time with winrar? Use an open source program that is FREE and doesn't have any hiccups like winrar... I am talking about 7Zip of course. You'll find it to be much better then winrar.

PS- My name is Javis. Pronounced like -JAY-VIS. FYI. ;)

Wes sent me an e-mail telling me it's 1.10 gb whish is the size of the rar file I've downloaded...

It should be a little over 1.2 Gigs

    Thanks,

    Here's the video

  3. I tried downloading three times and each RAR file completes to 100% download and I'm unable to open the 1.10 gb rar with WinRar 3.9b5. I get the error message nothing to open - Archive is either in unknown format or damaged.

I had Wes reset my link as I was past the three attempts and I get the same error message...

I don't have a problem with downloading large files. I recently purchased the upgrade to Vue Pro Studio 7.5, Corel Paint Shop Pro X2 Ultimate, Hexagon 2.5, 3DCoat, Curvy 3D 1.5 and upload large jpgs to my Redbubble and Zenfolio galleries without any problems....

I've even downloaded the demo trials of ZBrush & Modo.... No probs...!!!!!

Next time he sends the link I'll try it on my Linux computer... BUT it is my WinXP computer that has not failed me in the past for downloading or uploading large files.... And I'm on fast cable modem....

I'm pretty sure Jarvis's video is well worth the money but is it worth the frustration???? I hope so and I'm hopng someone at Kurvy has a workable solution soon....!!!!!

  4. PS - I'm not certain about other tutorials. I haven't kept up, as I've been so busy creating them. But, I can definitely tell you that, I am gearing tomorrow's session toward new users of 3D-Coat, as much as I can. Whether it be a new user entirely, or from another package (specifically ZB, that's what I used to use).

Hi I watched the classroom today and I'm still not sure why there is a need to repotologyze a voxel model... It seems like a lot of hard work? Why not just export the voxel as an obj? I created a simple box in Voxel and exported it as n obj. It loaded fine into Wings3D & Vue.... So why the need to retopo....

I also realize this workshop was too advanced for me... I really need a 3D Coat course aimed at an absolute newbie who knows very little about Mudbox or ZBrush....

I also feel much more comfortable with 3D Coat ver 2.0 as I really only purchased 3DC as an alternative to Maxon's Bodypaint3D... There are just too many functions in version 3 that really confuse the heck out of me.... I do dabble in Hexagon, Wings3D and Vue Pro Studio... But most of my stuff is created in Corel Painter. It is an environment I feel so much more comfortable in and much easier to understand... So I'm hoping there is some tutorials or workshops that are aimed at 3DC dummies like me.... Also I believe if you would have explained why you were doing something instead of jumping in and just doing it, it may have helped... For example a reason why you had to repotologyze a model you had already created....

And I'm still not certain what the difference between functions Sculpt, Voxles and Retopo are....

I also asked about whether or not 3DC could be used in 2D as ZBrush can... For example I created the rocks in this 2D image using a trail of ZBrush 3.1. I used the 2D tools. The rocks are not 3D. But were drawn in ZB in a PSD file....

Perhaps 3D Coat version 3 is now taking a direction I have little interest in or do not properly understand as all the tutorials seemed to be directed to advanced 3D users...

    Cheers

    Kenmo

PS: I think you are a very talented and accomplished modeler and I was in total awe of how easily you are able to do things in 3DC....

  5. Can someone kindly explain to me the differences between the tools Sculpt, Retopo & Voxels? They all seem to be pretty close to me... Also examples when you would use each of these tools....

Last Saturday I was fortunate to view the free Kurvs workshop by Jarvis Jones... It was certainly worth viewing... I'm debating whether or not to accept an offer to watch his 2-3 advanced workshop tomorrow... One reason being I would much prefer a workshop aimed at beginners... but contingent on tomorrow's schedule & weather I may opt for the workshop.... Jarvis seems to be a very capable instructor...

Are there any tutorials aimed at noobs other then those dreadful WINK tutorials?

    Thanks kindly...

    Kenmo

  6. At present in 3D Coat ver 3.0 I only see a cross hair for my brush. I've tried both the directx & gl versions. I'm using 32 bit Windows... In 3D Coat I could tell the size and pressure of my brush by it's appearance on the screen.... This is true in all the functions of 3DC (voxel, paint, etc)...

    Cheers

  7. Don't get me wrong 3DCoat is a very easy and intuitive program but I'm just frustrated by the lack of documentation for this great app... A few tutorials and I'm sure most of my problems would go away....

I would prefer to see better documentation of the present version of 3DC then development of version 3.0 as I'm willing to bet most of us have not really tapped into the full potential of version 2.10....

Thanks I eagerly await the new tutorials on 3DCoat... Too bad Gary Miller dropped the ball but I suspect he had a family matter that required his attention...

    Cheers

  8. I'm totally frustrated with the lack of video tutorials for 3DCoat... It appears Gary Miller at Geekatplay has given up on doing further tutorials for 3DC and he was my only hope....I would assume if there were decent tutorials I would not have strange problems with my mesh like the images attached...

The mesh looks fine in Wings3D, Hexagon & Cinema4D ver 6 but is messed up when imported into 3DCoat... I'm ready to give up on 3DCoat for all the strange problems I've been having as it appears asking for some decent beginner level tutorials is never going to happen....

Can someone kindly explain to me what the problem is with my mesh? What is the procedure to prepare your models when exporting them from a 3D app for importing into 3DCoat?

I would also like to know when there will be some decent video tutorials with audio.... I'm sorry but Wink tutorials IMHO are a total waste of time...

    Cheers

    A very frustrated 3DCoat user....

  9. Yeah i definately agree, i don't really understand the wink tutorials in terms of it does not explain what a label does unless it's showing you steps with a instructor talking it would let you get a basic idea of what the things actually do rather than click this then click that etc. They are ok as said but not the best tutorials imo so i would also like some of these type of tutorial :)

I agree... IMHO wink tutorials are a waste of time... I find them very awkward to follow....

  10. Yeah I thought not. But somehow it did. It fried two modules of mine.

I'm a little paranoid when it comes to new gear. I always test everything to make sure it's good. I ran some tests on the memory when I got it, everything indicated it was fine. A few months later, I decided to run the /3GB switch (for zbrush no less), first try out with zbrush on the switch, my computer crashed hard. It would turn on, but I was getting a system beep for bad/no memory installed.

Yanked those suckers out... Ran like a champ. Of course I turned off the switch after that... It was a nightmare. The RAM was still relatively new at that point. :(

PS- I tried the ram again, and anything it was in, gave bad/no memory system beeps.

I've not heard of that before? How is it possible it could destroy hardware?

  11. Sorry Paint Guy but I've not tried uv mapping or texturing yet in 3DC.... 3DC is a great app and very easy to learn... But like you I find the support, documentation and tutorials very lacking...

I would much prefer to see Andrew work on better support for the current version 2.10 then developing a newer version of 3DC as it appears most of the features in ver 2.10 are not being fully used...

    Cheers

  12. Sorry Andrew I do not see the option to export as mid poly...

I'm exporting using the option I've circled in red in the attached image...

If I select one of the options below it, it will not import into Vue or Cinema4D. It will import into Hexagon and the mesh will now look fine but Hexagon becomes unstable. I was hoping to use Hex's decimate function to reduce the poly size....

3DC is a great app but tutorials (other then Geekatplay) and documentation is really lacking for a newbie like myself...

    Cheers

  13. Why do my meshes always look a lot better inside the 3DC environment then when I import them into other apps? Once I import them into Vue, Hexagon or Cinema4D the mesh always shows a few flaws that are not there in 3DC...

What am I doing wrong? The mesh are exported as obj in 336 K option... If I use the denser option I can not import the mesh into Vue or Cinema4D. Hex will import the mesh but behaves very badly, often crashing....

  14. You can do it in 3D-Coat.

Go to Sculpt mode, Click "Select/Move" button, Click "Select objects", then click on the model, click "Rotate" button, rotate the model, done.

Just tried it...it rotates the camera... I want to rotate the model and not rotate around the model....

  15. I am in the same boat as you MarkG. Fortunately, I found a series of vids at geeksatplay.com. The series isn't finished yet but the aim is to take the werewolf character sample that comes with 3DC, "muscle" him up and then texture him. They've gotten thru most of the "muscle" stuff so far. The vids are very good, not condescending and I am learning a lot from them such that as soon as I can scrape the cash together (I'm unemployed for the last year) I'm getting 3DC.

I too tried the "crown" tut and could not complete it so don't feel so bad.

Gary Millers 3DC video tuts at Geekatplay are incredible... He's one of the best... He also has some fine Vue & Hexagon tutorials at Geeksatplay.....

Sadly Gary hasn't posted any new 3DC tuts in a while... I think he is attending to some family matter (parents I believe)....

  16. I'm not aware of any way to do this with a polygonal mesh inside of 3DC. You can of course rotate with a voxel sculpt.

It looks like your mesh was already rotated upon importing it, I would go back to your main package (where you modeled it, or any other 3D package) and rotate it so it's where you need it and then import it again.

Thank you kindly...that worked.... Too bad that function wasn't within 3DC... Listening Andeww...??? LOL

And if not for Gary Miller's fine tutorials at Geekatplay.com I would still be struggling with 3DC... Don't get me wrong 3C is a fantastic app but when it comes to 3D I'm still a dummy...

    Cheers
