  1. 1. Does it hang on default voxel sphere (just run 3D-Coat, select default voxel sphere, click on “proxy mode” icon in Vox Tree)? Or does it hang only on specific model?

Hi Sergyi, placing any voxel primitive in the workspace or any sculpted voxel form and attempting to enter proxy mode freezes 3DCoat

    2. What operation do you perform before entering “proxy mode”? Maybe some import of texture (and in what format, like “jpg”)?.

It appears that the evident operation to create the freeze is attempting to switch from any voxel form into proxy mode at any point of the work flow.

    3. Do you see this problem in previous builds (like 04C)

No, 04C does not freeze when switching to Proxy Mode

Michalis :Edit: Autoretopology is brocken. Any attempt crashes 3dcoat.

    I can confirm this also

Also, but maybe not a bug - it is no longer possible to change color of the default shader in voxel mode using the color picker.

Perhaps this is a deliberate change since vertex paint i.e nothing can be given a color in the shader settings until vertex paint is applied?

  2. Tree21: One of the things I like best about 3D-Coat is the ability to express our feelings or our thoughts quickly.Sometimes we artists get

caught up in meticulous details and strive for technical perfection, which is fine, but other times it's nice just to express ourselves

    with quick sketches.

I couldn't agree more. It's been a real pleasure since the addition of vertex paint to skip back a little with 3D Coat and sketch again just for kicks rather than using it just for worky work work and all that tricky stuff. I've been looking forward to this moment since I first picked up 3DCoat and have been playing late into this evening to enjoy it.

It's great to feel like a kid and just slap some paint on some clay.

Occasionaly I would happen upon an issue when attempting to paint on voxels , right clicking the voxel layers panel and selecting "to global" fixed matters.

If you're new to 3DCoat is to save a camera view (camera shortcut ) of your render window when you've set up your scene by pressing >cntrl + up arrow

Thanking you Grandmaster B and Chingchong for so kindly sharing.

Here, two more from speed sculpt , to paint, to lighting and finally render in one evening.

  3. Voxels and vertex paint - pretty fabulous I would say even it's early state.

It'll open up a whole avenue of creative expression.

Behold a sloppy sketch - ropey as heck , low poly, 0 thought , 0 endevor - throw in some slap dash texture painting and yet.....

a realization occurs that with 3D Coat's ability to render in perspective with decent shadows - something starts to cook.

The quality of being able to work with such renders starts to show an imediate aesthetic quality regardless of my rubbish and purely by chance likeness of Jonathan Richman.

The character is given prescence and weight within the outcome of 3DCoat's render, leading the artist to believe with a little more planning than none at all - what else could be possible?

  4. Hi there CN, to use those brushes i.e surface brushes - you can import the mesh in it's mesh state without converting to voxels at all - switch to surface mode> in the lower toolbar to the left you will see "Merge" , select merge without voxelizing and size the object to your preference - press apply.

When done on export set the reduced polycount percentage to zero to keep any hand painted reduction , increases and sculpted modifications - you can crunch your poly export should you wish by setting percentage reductions in the export dialog.

As far as I'm aware only .obj is available as an export option.

You can also turn your mesh into voxels and bake the surface details created in the voxel sculpt back on to a normal map created for your master polygonal mesh

for that concept see here by Javis

  5. So far my initial test with 3D-Coat-V3-7-04C for the mac has brought up a strange behaviour with the default shader i.e unable to change color of the shader.

Importing the shaders folder from V3D-Coat3-7-018 resolved this issue as well as other strange shader behaviour such as blank shader preset windows.

    Also

Photoshop CS5 Extended post-2166-0-04393800-1329787950_thumb.pn as well as my version of Modo 3 have an issue/ cannot import .obj exports from 3DC. They can if processed through ZBrush.

I've attached both the 3DC export of a test reduced mesh and also that of the same mesh once imported and exported out of ZBrush
