  1. Sergyi, I also discovered that if you are using Symmetry you will get the delay in around 30% less actions, so with symmetry turned on I get the delay after around 200 actions, but with symmetry turned off I can go for nearly 300 actions before I get the 2-3 second delay. T.
  2. Sergyi, do you think that the 2-3 second delay may have something to do with the undo buffer size? Is there a part of 3DC which buffers the brush strokes/actions you perform which is dispensed with when performing the "downgrade the volume" or Proxy mode? T.
  3. Hi there Sergyi, The 2-3 second lag after performing around 200 brush strokes has been with 3DCoat for a very long time, way before v3.3, I had it when I was using an intel machine with Mandriva, I then went to Centos 5.5 x64 and now I am on Fedora core 14 x64 with an AMD Opteron (16 core) machine with a Quadro 4000 Video card and 32GB ram, I use both Wacom Intuos 3 tablet as well as the mouse. It seems that the delay has nothing to do with the hardware or version of Linux you are running with. The delay appears after you have performed around 200 actions, whether these actions are moving vertices in the Retopo room, brush strokes in the paint room or brush strokes in the Voxel room. It is not specific on a certain tool or tool combination, it is produced by the number of actions you perform. To reproduce the delay, just open a new scene, select the large sphere in the voxel room, select the move brush and start moving parts of the sphere around, do this for around 200 actions (brush strokes), then the 2-3 second delay will suddenly strike after every new action (brush stroke). Now that there is a delay of 2-3 seconds after every brush stroke, the only way to remove the delay and get back to normal (non delay) working is to toggle the proxy mode. What I do is create a new Volume in the VoxTree, then toggle the "downgrade the volume" in this new Volume, this removes the 2-3 second delay. The strangest thing is that if I am working in the Retopo room manipulating vertices/edges or working in the UV room manipulating uv's and get the 2-3 second delay, I just go to the Voxel room and toggle the proxy mode and the delay is removed, even though I may not even have anything in the Voxel room. I hope this can help finally sort this annoying problem out. All the best, T.
  4. I have just tried out the Linux Cuda 3-7-02C and can confirm that it still has the 2-3 second delay occurring after performing around 200 brush strokes. T.
  5. Andrew, how did you go with the 2-3 second brush delay which occurs after performing around 200 strokes?
  6. I think you guys are forgetting that 3DCoat is a Sculpting/Topology editor/Painting application, if you were to add too many other things, like photo quality rendering, animation etc the focus would be lost and we would end up with just another all round 3D program.
  7. Andrew, When I get the 2-3 second delay after each brush stroke, if I create a new volume and cache it, even though there is nothing in it, then go back to the original volume and start working on my sculpt the delay is gone, so you don't need to create a sphere in the new volume, the action of caching the new volume fixes the delay in the original volume. T.
  8. Andrew, I disabled "Preferences->UseMulticoreForSaving" and it did not prevent the lag or remove the lag once it occurred. T.
  9. Andrew, I did what you said and yes the lag disappeared after caching the sphere. T.
  10. Andrew, I'm not sure what you mean by cache, but I performed just over 200 brush moves and the 2 and a bit second delay occurred, I then created another volume in the root, added a primitive sphere, then went back to the original volume to work on my object and the delay period had doubled, from its 2 second before adding the new volume and sphere to 4 seconds delay now. T.
  11. Yep, this bug happens throughout 3DC, but I just did a test to see how long it would take to occur, I started in the Voxel room, selected the hi rez primitive sphere and proceeded to use the move tool and also used the shift to smooth, it took about 200 actions with these two tools before the bug manifested itself. This just gives Andrew something to go by to sort this out, I hope this bug can be sorted out soon as it is VERY annoying. I would even suggest adding a button in each room, or on the tool bar, which automatically toggles the proxy mode for the short tern until Andrew fixes this. Also, I first discovered this bug when painting a model in the paint room many moons ago. T.
  12. The above craxiness only occurs when the Preference dialog box is open, when I closed it then I could undo all these shards emanating from my model. T.
  13. WOW, something weird just happened, when I was in the delay after each stroke, I went into the settings and changed the no of cpu cores from the default to 16, then when I went to undo some brush strokes, the object just shot out some shards at right angles to the model. and evey click on the Edit on the menu bar caused more shards to emanate from my model, the model is pretty well stuffed now and there is no way to undo this craziness. T
  14. Andrew, the delay 2-3 second delay (after each brush stroke), seems to occur after about the 200th brush stroke, I did a test with the default hi res sphere and mainly used the move tool and smooth, I counted every brush stroke I made. Using the latest 3.7.01B (CUDA)GL64) on Fedora core 14 (with all the updates), my system is 16core@2.3ghz AMD Opti, 32gb ram, mirrored 2TB drives, Quadro 4000, ASUS MoBo, system is rock solid and I also run Mudbox 2012 and ZBrush4 without any problems or delays. By the way, I also had this exact same problem with my Intel 8core Xeon system, 16gb ram, Geforce 9800GT, also had FC14 and before that I had Centos 5.4 on it. I hope you can sort this out soon as it is a MAJOR inconvenience when you are concentrating on the job at hand and you have to break concentration to Toggle the proxy mode. T.
  15. Andrew, saving doesn't restore to "pre-lag" condition, once you get the 2-3 second lag after every brush stroke you either have to save and restart 3DC and reopen your work OR click twice on the "Toggle proxy mode" option in the Voxel room. It has nothing to do with the saving of your project, it has something to do with what "Toggle proxy mode" releases when it is toggled, its as if there is some kind of storage buffer which gets full and when its full you get the lag and toggling the "Toggle proxy mode" seems to clear this full buffer. T.
  16. Andrew, it happens after a while of working on an object, doesn't matter what you are doing and what brush you are using, I have on numerous occasions, been working on a project which has no lag after brushing a stroke, then gone away from my computer for maybe 1 hour, then when I get back to 3DC the lag is suddenly there after just performing 1 brush stroke. The question I would like answered is "why does toggling proxy mode on then off fix the problem"? Even when I have imported an obj mesh and I am working with it in the Paint room the delay after each stroke occurs, then a quick trip to the Voxel room to toggle proxy mode twice and its back to painting without any delay. I mean, what has the "Toggle proxy mode" got to do with an imported obj file in the Paint room, there is no voxel sculpt in the Voxel room at all! T.
  17. Does anyone else have this problem: After working with 3DC for a while, no matter if you are in the Paint room painting, or Voxel room sculpting or even editing some UV's in the Retopo room, out of the blue comes a 2-3 second delay after every brush stroke? this has occurred for me in just about every version of 3DC. The only way to restore 3DC to remove the delay (remove the 2-3 second delay), is to either save your work and restart 3DC and reopen your work OR go over to the Voxel room and click on the "Toggle proxy mode" twice, then all is well with the world for a while then the delay occurs again and its off back to the "Toggle proxy mode" again. I have reported this to mantis but nothing is done about it. Running Linux x64. PLEASE can anyone confirm this MOST annoying problem. T.
  18. Best Linux build yet! good work guys... Any chance of multi threading the bucket fill? as it now takes forever using only one thread, its quicker to use a brush and to fill by hand. Also, the abrupt slow down after performing a lot of brush strokes is still there, but if I go to the Voxel Room and toggle the Proxy mode on, then off, the slow down vanishes and I can work at full speed again, even though I am working in the Paint Room. T.
  19. I think a GUI based on Qt would be fantastic and easier to cross platform, but Andrew is one man and the existing GUI is O.K. to get the work done, if he had the resources of Autodesk then I would expect such a GUI but you have to be practical. T.
  20. Yep, I thought it would be great if there was this function in voxel mode, surface mode is o.k. but I prefer working in voxels. T.
  21. Andrew, why don't we have a masking brush which we could paint over areas of the voxel sculpt and then press a toggle button to hide those masked areas? this would be great for those hard to get into places, or if you wanted to just work on one bit of your model and mask off the rest. T.
  22. Linux 25C Problems with the LC Tubes/ Snake etc tools when using symmetry, the mirrored side goes crazy. Doesn't appear to generate holes, which is good. Voxels are great. T.
