  1. Alpha 65 Direct Painting Errors When I have the UV set window open, and try painting on the UVs, if the UV window overlaps the color selector and is on top of the color selector, trying to paint a UV island that lays over the color selector causes the brush color to change instead of painting. Load Creature Model Open UV window Position UV window over color selector Try painting UV group that overlays color selector, no painting, but brush color will change!
  2. This is a critical feature that clay tools has. For "Angle of Draft", you specify a parting line and the direction the mold will move, the system notifies you what areas have undercuts. From there, you can then backfill, they have a tool called 'pull plane' which lets you select a edge and 'drag' it backwards at the appropriate draft angle and backfill the undercut. So in this image, the red arrows represent the mold direction, the red line a parting line, and the the black contour a cross section through a model. The blue area is a undercut, and what you need to backfill, and the red line on top of it represents the filled in area, overfilled for a draft angle of about say 5 degrees.
  3. Can't seem to blend colors or displacement very well in DP using the various 'smoothing' tools that are available. Colors hardly smooth at all.
  4. GL used to be faster on my laptop until about revision 30 or so.
  5. "Merge, On Pen" still needs more transform options than just shift x/y/z. it needs a way to change the orientation of the tool relative to the surface normal, and have it stick. IE, add the size and angle manipulators, but the resulting angle is not relative to global coordinates, but to the surface normal used to orient it.
  6. Right now, when using cut/clone and the primitives, I have to drag them around and manually adjust them to point along surface normals. It would be nice if there was a 'auto orient' button, and maybe someway to 'tweak' the angle a bit so I can adjust HOW a object points relative to the surface. Also, when primitives are scaled small, their handles/gizmos get WAY too cluttered and become impossible to use. Can we simplify these somehow?
  7. One powerful feature of Zbrush is being able to mask out say scales on a surface, and then quickly be able to go back and give those scales volume. Would it be possible to do something like this 3D Coat?
  8. They are already 'packed' using a sparse voxel tree. Otherwise, you couldn't hold that many in memory.
  9. Is there any way to 'rotate' the alpha when using it as a brush. Also, when using the alpha as a brush, it is shown, and draws upside down relative to its preview in the alpha palette. This needs to be fixed!
  10. http://meshlab.sourceforge.net/ You might be able to import the point cloud into MeshLab, and then export as a OBJ. Meshlab supports many 3D scanning formats.
  11. XP can become unstable when running with the 3/1 gb switch. One of the FEW good things about vista is that if you have 4 Gb, it gives 3.5Gb to the applications, and only 0.5Gb is used by the OS. It is also stable. Zbrush on Vista with 4Gb is a pretty good treat.
  12. When adding a empty node to the vox tree, the node is often uneditable. Drawing inside of it, snapshoting of primitives, nothing works! Saving the file, and reloading, the sub node in the vox tree finally begins to respond to editing commands.
  13. Hey Andrew, here's another matrix/linear algebra library you might be able to use for automaic quadranglization, supposed to be easier to use than Lapack/Blas. http://eigen.tuxfamily.org/index.php?title=Main_Page It's LGPL though, but the only changes you need to submit back are those you make to the library itself, not to the core program.
  14. That's what those papers I posted talk about. In one, you can place control points to improve the edge flow. Andrew needed some help in finding libraries to compute EigenValues of sparse matrices.
