volumetric modeling?

I tried to follow a thread in this forum about an upcoming volumetric modeling feature for 3DCoat. Is there a good video on the web that shows what this is like and that shows how it differs from other methods? It sounds exciting.

Thanks.

After the last post, I looked up "voxels" and ended up at a site where simple voxel models are created. With my limited knowledge of 3D in general, I got the impression that voxels are 3D units drawn in 3D space and built up in multiples to create a larger volume. Would 3DCoat's new feature be a voxel-type technology? The simple voxel samples are at:

Volumetric modeling is something like you told but better because it produces smooth surfaces. You can read extended info there:

The Sensable Claytool videos remind me of a French program called Archipelis Designer, but Archipelis is more basic. I don't know if it is "volumetric modeling." It produces triangle polygonal blobs from a closed 2D curve and you can join things easily. There's alittle GIF animation that I am attaching, but I don't know if it will show up as an animation on the forum. I think they have stopped developing Archipelis any further.
