Unable to paint colour on to imported model

Hi there,

 

I have imported an OBJ in to 3D Coat but I cannot paint colour on to the model. 

 

The model has a UV set.  I can CTRL P into Photoshop, paint on a layer with colour,

come back to 3d Coat and the change is visible as in the attached image.

 

I can also paint with smart materials.

Up on the top header there are 3 spheres  blue  green and gray   there IS a   X   on the green  sphere  which is  Opacity  /  Color  it is turned off is all . Click it to turn on and welcome to The coat factory I was you a year ago and made the same oversight.
