Member emrum Posted August 28, 2019 Author Member Report Share Posted August 28, 2019 note: UV seams look different in blender (I tried exporting OBJ and FBX, same result in 3dc ) 3dc version 4.8.23 ubuntu

Member emrum Posted August 28, 2019 Author Member Report Share Posted August 28, 2019 I get the same issue, when importing high-poly (subdived in blender) here an image of high-poly import
Member emrum Posted August 28, 2019 Author Member Report Share Posted August 28, 2019 looks like it would not preserve UV edge position (?) but is smothing subdivs over UV seam (?)
Member emrum Posted August 28, 2019 Author Member Report Share Posted August 28, 2019 interesting: I just figured: in blender i get the same tex stretching, with subdiv applied (seems to stretch the UV) looks like I have to -- re-unwrap after subdiv !? I am going to try. OR how else preserve the UV, using subdiv (modifier) ?
Member emrum Posted August 28, 2019 Author Member Report Share Posted August 28, 2019 but then low-poly and high-poly will have different UV sets !! do I really want that ?
Member emrum Posted August 28, 2019 Author Member Report Share Posted August 28, 2019 also unwrapping high-poly is much slower ..
Member emrum Posted August 28, 2019 Author Member Report Share Posted August 28, 2019 -- note: in blender : texture is ok , if I set a crease value = 1.0 for all seam-edges. below the blender setting: --- when I import in 3dc and select smooth-but-keep-edges -- it does NOT work after applying material -- BUT: just in the preview window it looks OK !! Member emrum Posted August 29, 2019 Author Member Report Share Posted August 29, 2019 (edited) so, my diagnosis ... i think, subdiv in 3d-coat (4.8.23) discards crease value and stretches UV seams !? Edited August 29, 2019 by emrum
Carlosan
Please try this: check triangulate ON when import .
Member emrum Posted August 31, 2019 Author Member Report Share Posted August 31, 2019 No, triangulation does not help. Below is a test object, for import. I think the edge "crease" values are discarded. test_cube__101.fbx
Carlosan
To avoid stretching you need to add more edge loops. Try this model using this settings. test_cube__101.fbx
Carlosan
Switch ON Set sharp edges over UV seams will help too, but you need to relocate current seams.
Member emrum Posted September 2, 2019 Author Member Report Share Posted September 2, 2019 with supporting edge loops, it is better . thank you, carlos. i still recommend to support edge-crease any time.
Carlosan
Yes. Latest version added Sharp Edges tool, but because we dont have interactive Subdivision Surface Modifier, currently it is not possible to control the sharpness of the edges in the subdivided mesh. I hope it will be added in future developments.
