Advanced Member MariuszKolo Posted October 8, 2019 Advanced Member Report Share Posted October 8, 2019 Hi, Since Vray Next for most applications like Max, Maya, Unreal, Houdini, etc. have finally fully supports PBR and have implementation for metalness workflow could team of 3d coat ask Vray team if it would be possible to implement vray engine in 3d coat rendering room like renderman ? Since Vray is much more used and supports almost all of 3d apps and is win, osx and linux based in my opinion is a best candidate to bring great raytraced CPU ,GPU, RTX lookdev renders inside of 3d coat. What you think about that?

What you think about that? I'm just speculating, but there are 3 reasons why this probably won't happen. 1) A path tracing render engine is currently under construction for the next major version of 3DCoat. Porting another 3rd party engine would only take resources away from that effort. Plus, the Renderman integration isn't as well implemented as it should be. No interactive mode, only one frame rendered rather than a sequence of frames (for turntables, like the default render), and no shadow-catching material 2) VRay is the most expensive render on the market, at over $1100 for a single desktop license. Chaos Group would have to pay someone to port it, and I doubt they would bother with a smaller, specialty app like 3DCoat. 3) Chaos Group charges for a new license for every application. I have a license of 3.6 for Modo, but cannot use it or even transfer the license to 3ds Max. To use Vray on 3ds Max, I would have to buy a completely new VRay license. Redshift and Renderman don't take this approach. You buy one license and you can use it on any 3D app that has a plugin.
