Member jammer42777 Posted May 19, 2020 Member Report Share Posted May 19, 2020 Hello! I'm very new to 3dcoat. I'm in sculpt mode and I cloned the first layer. And I have one material for the first layer. However on the second layer when I try to add a new material (in geometry) it goes to the first layer and changes it's material instead. Any thoughts? --Joshua
Carlosan
Hi To get control over different smart materials on different layers in sculpt mode, you need to create a new layer on Windows > Panels > Layers.

I'm not sure how to add the layers to the vox tree. What I was told to do (in the tutorial) was to clone the first layer, then "clean the layer" which I am guessing to mean clear the object. so the second layer in the vox tree is emply. In the tutorial he was able to use brushes to add a shell of geometry over the second layer. When I try it with the steps indicated below nothing happened. I really want to finish the tutorial and learn how to use 3d coat but I'm getting tripped up early and need help. Also is there a tutorial on the layer window specifically? Any help would be great! Thanks! --Joshua
