Contributor bwtr Posted December 30, 2009 Contributor Report Share Posted December 30, 2009 http://www.atangeo.com/products Is there anything in this app that 3DC does not allready achieve? Brian
philnolan3d
I had another thread about this app somewhere on this forum. One nice thing that it does is that it has a slider so that you can see the decimation happening in real-time. Other than that 3DC already does everything that it does. In fact in one of the 3.1.x updates just after the decimation (reduction) feature was introduced, you may find that Andrew said it was improved to match the speed of Balancer. Advanced Member splodge Posted December 30, 2009 Advanced Member Report Share Posted December 30, 2009 I've not tried Balancer but what interests me is the option to decimate an object and still preserve its UVs. This in theory means you could model and paint an object and then create several LODs later on. Whereas 3D Coat's decimator only decimates a raw mesh. So with 3D Coat you would have to create several LODs then try to bake the original details and color into each LOD separately. I dunno though, maybe 3D Coat's slower method would give better results?.

philnolan3d
That said, I do have a copy of the free version of Balancer installed. I don't use it a lot, but then I don't normally have much need for decimation.
