Normal Map Export Question

OK. Well, Today, I finally took the plunge and updated to v3! I was debating for a while, because what I mainly plan on doing it with it (for now at least) is painting displacement or normal maps and using them on animated characters in Cinema 4D. With my set up, displacement rendering is a little slow, so I figured I'd use normal maps.

Can sculpting be exported as a normal map? I tried, but I'm not sure if it's not possible, or I did something wrong.

And is there anything new to know about taking displacement or normal maps into Cinema 4D since Pavel's tutorial which is a year old or so.

Thanks.

Bob

Yes, you can export your sculpting as a normal map. In the retopo room choose "merge for per-pixel painting with normal map" under the retopo menu. Once loaded in the painting room the normal map will be on it's on layer. Since the normal map is already baked go to the textures menu and export your tangent (TS) normal map. Also you can check your settings for normal map export in preferences, There are a couple of normal map settings to choose from depending upon your software that you use to render your normal map.

Sorry, I took you to mean that you meant voxel sculpting. Use the texture baking tool in the paint room to bake your normal map...
