Member Kevin Posted December 29, 2011 Member Report Share Posted December 29, 2011 I just bought 3D Coat. There were two versions one with CUDA and one without. I installed the one without. Not sure what CUDA. When I installed, I have two executables 3d-Coat(DX) and 3d-Coat(GL) If I click on the first one, I get an error about d3dx9_38.dll not being present. The second one works fine. So what is the first one? I have a 64 bit machine with an ATI graphics card. Thanks.
philnolan3d
Cuda comes with all modern nVidia graphics cards. It enables 3DC and some other programs to use the GPU to help with processing. Since you say you have ATI you do not need the Cuda version. The DX version of 3DC uses Direct X 9.x if you have a newer PC it may have only come with DX 10 or 11. You can download it from Microsoft here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35 I find the DX version to be faster but depending on your system you may like the Open GL one. It's up to you. Hope that helps. Welcome feel free to ask questions in the forum and post some great works in the gallery section!
Member Kevin Posted December 29, 2011 Author Member Report Share Posted December 29, 2011 Thanks for the information. My pc is probably about a year old so I probably don't have Direct X 9. So far the GL version seems to be fine.
philnolan3d
Well you can install DX 9 if you like, you can run it along side the newer versions without problem.. For example I hve a DX 11 video card, but also have the DX 9 installed for 3DC.
