I create objects for CNC milling, and while I mostly use Blender Subdivision modelling for my work, I but supplement it with certain tools in 3DCoat. Bass relief is especially helpful to deal with draft angles and overhanging areas, and the new soft booleans are fantastic. I'm making no criticism of 3DCoat's mesh modelling tools, but I'm just far more familiar with Blender, so I use that probably 80% of the time.  Sometimes I'll use 3DCoat's sculpting tools to block out an object, then retopo it, and then take it into Blender for final tweaking and finalising. Here's  an example of something not too dissimilar to the kind of project I often get. I'm fairly familiar with the majority of 3DCoat's sculpting and modelling tools (though there will be gaps of things I'm oblivious to), so I'm curious how others would approach something like this, from a workflow point of view.    I often have specific sizes and volumes to work to (which regularly change in the middle of a project), so having a workflow that is flexible and easy to adjust elements of the design is essential. This is why Blender's modifier stack is so helpful. (I'm not suggesting 3DCoat needs one, I'm just trying to let you all understand my current workflow)  Cheers, Derek

However, this is not related to the conditions not being respected, afaics. Ah ok, I see what you mean. Using any Voxel Brush relies on surface changes as well, so mask gets erased immedieately too when a Vox Brush is selected. Still, seems to me not the issue here and I do not see how it would be related. I demonstrated the conditions not respecting the Freeze and Fill Tool, not any Voxel Tool.

As apparent in the linked videos, I am in Surface Mode using the Freeze Tool and the Fill Tool with Freeze. Is the Freeze or Fill Tool a Voxel Tool ? I am afraid I don't understand. How can freeze not work if used with a Voxel Tool? The Freeze Tool is a tool itself. I can not use a Voxel Tool and the Freeze Tool simultaneously. You are probably referring to that a freeze mask gets deleted as soon as a user has "Voxelize Immedieately " on. That is not the issue here however. The issue described and demonstrated here is the Freeze Tool and Fill Tool with Freeze not respecting conditions.

if youre using any voxel tool then freeze doesnt work with them , because the topology as a whole changes with each stroke the mask wouldnt work , so if youre masking then only use surface tools

I am not sure how related this might be, but I noticed what you see with freeze masks to/from layer color looks kind of similar to the problem. Black inner, colored rim. As you can see in this timestamp: I find that suspiciously similar looking and thought maybe due to this new "Freeze Masking from/to color on layer" functionality something got entangled that maybe should not be, and is maybe influencing the Flat Shade View in unwanted ways. Maybe this could be a track. (nice addition btw)

So I decided after not being all that thrilled with how Blender works with lighting to give this another go.  I exported JUST the torso and gens as one unit and found no issues with this.  I then loaded up the figure without the gens and magically the issue is gone from the face and torso.  So it does seem to be a UDIM issue but not sure how to explain it but when I do have the gens (a conformer to the figure) saved out as part of the OBJ then the issue appears.  I suspect that the UDIM space that's sharing the same UV space with the face UV is the culprit.  But even if I move the gens over to it's own UV space the issue still appears.  So not sure what to think of that.  So my work around is to just work on the Torso/Gens maps separately and then work on the full body without the gens and hope that I don't get called out for seam issues.  I don't think I will but as many other content creators have complained the gens are always a hassle and one has just jump through hoops to get it all done well enough!  

It's a pity, I don't know if python script can solve this problem, or the development team can integrate the versatility of curve data.
