Member Ammar Posted March 1, 2017 Member Report Share Posted March 1, 2017 Purchased 3DC Pro recently and imported an STL file for a model I made in Fusion 360, but the mesh of the model in 3DC is totally distorted though it has over 500,000 triangles. Tried importing as voxel as well as surface model but I got the same results for both. Tried resample, auto retopo, clean surface but get terrible results. (Image attached) If I open the same file in Maya or Simplify 3D, it is as good as modeled. Am I missing anything?
philnolan3d
Have you tried different materials? I can't speak for maya but in 3DC everything has to be triangles so the model will be converted. Some materials will handle the smoothing better than others. Also increasing the poly count should help get rid of the artifacts.
Javis
Yes, Phil is right. Use a shader that has smoothing (try a few, and you'll find one). The shader you're looking at has flat shading.
Member Ammar Posted March 2, 2017 Author Member Report Share Posted March 2, 2017 Thank you very much. The only shader that worked for me is the default one. I also had to double the res, apply Smooth All twice and smooth some edges using the smooth brush with a 2% value. Appreciate your help.
