  1. Thanks, I was able to straighten out my workflow with your help.
  2. Um, sort of. Now I get the Tool Options panel, but not nearly as complete as the one shown (for one thing, there is no apply, and no Apply or Add on the top of the Tool options bar (see screenshot). Since I can't apply it doesn't do me any good.
  3. So I'm trying to follow a tutorial that uses the same version of 3D Coat that I have, but for the life of me I can't find the window he's using (and I've reset my stuff back to the standard setup). This has got to be easy but the online manual reveals nothing. Please help.
  4. Okay, I have done that. For anyone who's interested, here's the full story:
  5. Sigh. No, even a much older version is still behaving badly. Why in heaven's name does the version I use on my old computer work and none of these do? There must be *something* that's different (note: same graphics card on both machines, even). Are you telling me the fill is supposed to work this way? How is it not doing that on the other machine? (I can post a video to show if you need to see it working correctly). This is kind of huge.
  6. Ooookay, but is there somewhere I can download .04? I *really* need the ability to fill as I was able to do in that version (without running to the other room where that machine is located).
  7. I just tested this out and it works fine in version .04, but not in the newest version (.15) -- both versions are 4.8. So I guess my real question is: how do I get the old version (which works properly)?
  8. Nope, that doesn't do it, either. I'll make a video showing how the points "snap" to the surface (and also a video on my old machine which shows they do not have to do so). Perhaps someone (you?) can tell me what I have to do to make my new machine install work like the old one.
  9. I feel like we are speaking an entirely different language. "Perspective" -- that appears to be what I see, which is to say I maneuver around the object and see it from all sides, but it will only allow me to place the points for the fill on the surface of that object no matter what I do. Perhaps I should make a video showing the issue. First I'm going to check out my other computer (which DOES work, although it might have an earlier version of 3D Coat on it) to see if there are any settings that are different (difficult because it's in another room with no way to move, but I'll do my best). But it does seem like there is some "snap to surface" setting that I'm getting somewhere.
  10. That sentence doesn't make any sense at all to me (I mean, I understand most of the words, but have no idea what you mean). I opened up the object in Paint UV Mapped Mesh Per Pixel. I'm just trying to paint on a layer. I'm on the Paint menu, and selecting a layer with the fill bucket. I see no way to switch from a surface to a voxel thingee.
  11. So I just installed 3DCoat on my new machine and on my old machine when I did a fill and picked point a and b I could pick them "inside" of the object, as well as move them around inside, very necessary for getting the overall fill to be proper. Now when I try the points are attached to the surface of the object and I can only move them around on that surface. I tried but I don't see any setting anywhere I could possibly change to get this behavior to alter. What am I doing wrong?
  12. Yeah, that was the video I watched and I think I do have it now -- it seemed to work just fine for what I want to do. Thanks.
  13. When I read about Freezing it seems like it would be what I want, but every time I try and use it I get VERY confused (somehow it doesn't operate intuitively, at least for me). I'll watch some demos and see if I can figure it out.
  14. I'm using gradient fills, but I want to do separate fills, one for the arms, and one for the lower body, and in Photoshop I'd just mask out each area and fill separately, but I don't see any way to do this in 3D Coat.
  15. Sorry if this is another stupid question, but I have a need to be able to fill certain areas on an object -- imagine I have a dress with arms (in the T-pose) and I want to fill with a gradient the arms separately from the rest of the dress (and then, of course, also use a gradient fill on the bottom portion of the dress). In Photoshop I can draw a selection box around any area I want to apply a gradient to and only that area is affected -- any corresponding tool or process in Coat?
  16. Thanks -- I figured it was something simple I was missing.
  17. Sorry, folks, but I really looked here and couldn't find it, so if it's obvious you can all jump on me and tell me I'm an idiot (which I often am), but I want to paint a gradient and I can't find any tool or process to paint a gradient. I'm sure it's there -- this is kind of an important thing and while I can do it in Photoshop it would be SO much easier to do this while I'm in the 3D View -- but I can't find it. TIA for any help.
  18. Yeah, I know all about the theory -- I just don't see it in practice (and the icons don't work for me). However, by installing the latest and greatest (and changing to a GL format -- for some reason I've only had the DX version) I was at least able to finally scale by shifting and using the RMB. So even though I never see the icons I can at least make things work well enough for me (would have been nice to see them, though).
  19. I don't see this stuff when I see the Preview Options window -- no little yellow marks anywhere, although I see all the other options. And right clicking on any of the rotate, move or scale things doesn't do anything. Is something broken with my 3D Coat (I think I have the latest version)? How do I get these options?
  20. Yeah, I'm trying to do this as well but right-clicking on the magnifying glass does nothing. I have the latest drivers for my NVidia card (which seems to work well for everything else). Any other ideas here? All I want to do is to scale the textures (I don't even care if they stay that way, but I need SOME way of scaling them).
  21. No, I have Gmail (which I kind of hate) but for my "regular" email I have my own address (much better than a Gmail address for business purposes). Using Dropbox for the mail end (which I pull off the mail server) is actually a "cloud solution" that many use (and it does work fine as long as you remember not to try and open up your mail in more than one computer at the same time -- even then it will work, but will then need a lot of cleanup). But thanks for the offer of help (I'm a five decade IT professional so I have a *bit* of experience).
  22. Ah, good -- there's only one of me so unlikely I could have them open at the same time (I actually have the same problem with my email, since I share Dropbox and have to make sure it's closed on whatever machine I'm NOT using).
  23. Most likely going to buy 3D Coat but I would like to try it first (and then hope for a Christmas sale :>). So I've downloaded the installer but I'd really like to try it on two machines, my laptop and my desktop (the laptop will be where I just fiddle around, and the desktop to put it through its paces). I know it's a timed trial, so I don't want to install it on one machine and find out it won't let me do it on the other (if that's the case I need to think through where I really want to try it). Is it possible to install on two machines and have it work properly through the trial period? TIA for any assistance.
