  1. I realize this is a very old thread.. but to avoid the stair stepping (aliasing) you probably used a 8 bit grey scale for the depth map, no? I believe if you can import a 16bit greyscale bitmap for your depth map, it should produce a much smoother transition. Curious about what ended up happening on your end? Did you just sculpt/smooth all those terrace transitions by hand??
  2. Is the Unofficial 3D Coat discord still working? Inivite link URL is expired. Discord search engine finds nothing for 3D coat. 3D Coat discord dead??
  3. Hi Forum I thought there was a feature in the older 3D coat, where one could import a photographi diffuse map from a 3D scan.. and use it as a displacement map where it could help get subtle details added to the 3D scan geometry. Essentially making the 3D scan look a bit higher resolution. This is needed for 3D printing and milling. Has this feature been removed in the newest versions of 3D coat? I thought it was in the pull down menu in the 'Sculpt' room, I can't find it anymore thanks!!!
  4. I'd love to find a way (like the new Copy tool in surface mode) but in the voxelized sculpt toolkit I'd like to clone/rubber stamp geometry from one area and brush it in another area on the 3d model. Think of Photoshop's clone tool, but with geometry and in a brush. Possible? Or is this a brush I'm not familiar with in the latest version?
  5. Hey Forum (noob question) I don't think I see it in any of the brushes, but is there a tutorial or technique... in trying to clone/rubber stamp geometry from one part of a sculpture to another part? For example, I have tree bark texture from 3D scanning, I'd like to clone this bark texture geometry into other parts of the tree. There's no texture map, it's all just geometry. I'm thinking of cutting and pasting the geometry from 1 area into another, but I'd rather use a brush. Possible?? thank you
  6. Hey Forum, Trying to create a chain link segment, using the curves tool. Watched 2 videos on how to make, followed them to the letter. However, when loading/using my custom 'chain link' everything works great.... except until I hit 'Apply' At this point, whether in Surface or Volume mode, I have problems. In Volume mode, the custom chain link gets decimated into really bad fragmented pieces, and no longer resembles the link. In Surface mode, the chain link looks great until I hit Apply... and then 3DCoat crashes. I've exampled the imported chain link that was modeled from an outside 3D software program. Geomagic Wrap and Meshmixer find no errors in the mesh .OBJ. Very very puzzled and a bit frustrated, as to what I'm doing wrong (unless this is a bug?) Couldn't find any info in the forum on this... thanks!!
  7. Hi support, I watched the supplied link from above. Got a little lost. Essentially, what the original poster is asking for is very similar to this video, yes? Load a greyscale texture map, click 1 button, have it convert/build displacement detailed data. Export model with new enhanced displacement geometry. I'm looking to do exactly the same thing, as in that ZBrush vid.. are there any ways of doing the same thing in current or tomorrow's release of 3DCoat? quick 1 click geometry enhancements (I'm looking to improve 3D scan geometry, using the texture map from the 3D scan capture process) thanks!!!
  8. Hi Community, I'm trying to find out if everytime I import a 3D scan mesh into 3DC and then voxelize the mesh... I've just degraded the detail and resolution of the mesh scan. I really love working with the voxel tools and brushes, but I thought I should find out for certain... if I'm applying a light destruction to the mesh, by voxelizing... thanks
  9. Hey Forum, Just curious if anyone can shed any info on why my latest version of 3DCoat cannot import large .OBJ files. Sometimes I get memory exception errors/run out of memory errors... or sometimes it just freezes until I force quit. Is 25million polygons as an .OBJ or .STL too much for 3DCoat? Or is it a file size issue? 2.3 GB? My system: Current windows 10, 64bit 128GB of Ram i9900k 16GB Quadro P5200 SSD HDs stumped... and frustrated... thanks!
  10. AbnRanger, If I could ask another question: Copy Clay is the perfect tool I need right now on some 3D scan mesh cloning. I'm using the settings I found online: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Fill on Blend on strength 1 Bend Laplacian clear data first press LMB over bumpy area press LMB over smooth area >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> However, after using the tool for about 3 or 4 clone clicks, it always freezes and crashes the program. Should I be using Elastic or some other 'new' settings? thanks Andre
  11. Good call! It was the 3DConnexion driver. I uninstalled, immediate performance boost. No more sluggish, choppy, laggy movement or performance in 3DC. thanks!!!!
  12. Ok, rebooted and deleted options.xml No change, all tools laggy, even moving the mouse w/i the program is laggy, choppy, stutters. DX version same. Move, Rotate, etc.. same as well. Thanks
  13. Hi AdnRanger, Thanks for replying. I loaded the gear from the splash screen , voxelized it at 1 million voxels. Voxel tools sluggish, slow... laggy... What do you suggest next? THanks
  14. Hi Forum, It seems when importing a large polygon count surface mesh into 3DCoat, then voxelizing it at twice the polygon count, the program becomes extremely sluggish and slow. I've google searched this issues, see lots of possible solutions. So far none I've tried are helping i9-9900K 128GB ram Nvidia Quadro p5200 (16GB ram) Windows 10 latest update Happening in V 4.9.12 (Quadro version) Happening in V 4.9.49 (Quadro version) 13mil mesh --> 26 mil voxels very very sluggish. Task manager/performance manager not showing any stress.... very puzzled. Suggestions? (I didn't see any optimization options in preferences)
  15. Hi Carlosan, Under Adjust in Sculpt Room. I still cannot locate. thank you
  16. Hello Forum, Is this information still current::: Report post Posted May 23 Its an early build with sculpt layers, only for real enthusiasts - Use this build at your own risk! Download it here: http://pilgway.com/files/3dcoat/V4.8/3d-Coat-V4_8-39SL-64.exe Alternative link (starts to works ~1 hour after uploading to main server) http://3dcoat.com/files/3dcoat/V4.8/3d-Coat-V4_8-39SL-64.exe Meaning, if I want to use the Reproject tool in version 4.9.05, I'll need to downgrade? I have the following 'On' >>>>Preferences, show beta tools is = ON ? or do I have to uninstall and reinstall 4.9.06 BETA? many thanks Andre
