I know auto simplification and keep quads is a problem with very complex algorithm,but in maya "quadrangulate faces" can get rid of triangles in some ways.so after auto simplification then "quadrangulate faces" may work.If this two features are well done,3dc would have a very quickly and more efficient workflow of retopology!

Andrew,I know you are very busy on volumetric sculpting development.But you also have said that retopo tool will continue develop because it is very important for volumetric sculpting.so I suggest to add " quadrangulate face" and " reduce face" features in retopo mode,with this two function,3dc would have a new workflow of retopology.Maya has both features but works not good.Please have a look at the attached pic which can explain what is "quadrangulate face" and "reduce face". I carefully and continuously tested the retopo features in 3dc, the functions of retopology in 3dc is already extremely outstanding and I think it would be the best . but I still hold that retopologizing is a time-consuming and hard task. Therefore, let's return to the origin of the problem, why do we need to retopo a model? 1. the mesh of a model is too high, we need low-poly model. 2. the topology of a model do not meet some special requirements,e.g. for character animation . we can use " reduce face" to make hight-poly mesh to low-poly mesh.and " quadrangulate face" can used for volumetric sculpting model and other imported triangulated mesh. so we would have a new and high-efficiency retopo workflow.we import a model ,turn to retopo mode, run commands "use current low-poly mesh", reduce faces, and lastly use other retopo tool to make the topology meet special requirements.The new workflow would save much time. But this two features must be a very complex algorithm.In maya they works not good.Keep a modle's shape and good topology but reduce its faces is really a challenge.

  10. The new retopo tool can't be used in symmetry mode,however,if make symmetry mode on,then make it off,the new tool can't work,unless you restart 3dc. edit:Sorry,strange,I tested again, now it works well,fantastic tool!
  11. yes,it is unsuitable to make a cloth. Seems this mini bug is still not been fixed.

  15. In GL version beta4E,if you frequently change the view(Alt+MMB),there have some unkown delays on occasion.

Andrew,if you are not so busy,can you improve the draw by closed spline mode? the spline is not snapped to the surface of a model,when I change the view(navigating),it loses the area which i want(please have a look at the first attached pic). if you want to improve it ,I have some ideas below: To my way of thinking,in 'E' panel "draw by closed spline" mode is the rudiment of marqee. ------The splines should be snapped to the surface of a model just like draw strokes in retopo mode. ------The splines should have control points and can toggle hardness just like the draw with spline tool. Andrew,please import the helmet obj file and have a try to select the red area on the second attached picture with the spline lasso,you will find it is a hard task.So snap to model /control points / toogle hardness is quite necessary. -----If draw with spline lasso improves to marquee,it should have the ability to recognise the closed area automatically which mark out in the third attached picture. -----About how to finish the spline, press enter would be best,just like the draw with spline tool I know you are very busy and want to release 2.10 as soon as possilbe,but I think all the technique mentioned above you have already used in draw strokes tool and draw with spline tool, so it would not take you too much time.sorry for avaricious requests.
  17. I have no trouble with freeze commands.the new beta works fine. There are two small bugs: ---press '6',the model hides and shows,is it the hotkey of hide sub-object? ---In retopo mode,the function "incremental subdivision" seems have problem.
  18. Andrew,are you really updated the link?I download it and reinstalled,it is 2.10beta4c,and has the same bug.
  19. woooo,when enter the last updated version,The UI almost is totally black and even I can't find the menu.

  21. I installed cuda driver and toolkit,but still failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005),pretty strange!
  22. Now,in 2.10beta4a,when use "select and operate",the selected edges and faces do not keep highlight ,it is inconvenience.
