  1. Thanks,If a model has overlapping uvs,when import it,no matter select "keep uv" or "keep cluster" or "auto-Mapping",the holes always exist, so what shall I do?

  4. When I test draw stroke and symmetry,I found when the topo is a whole shell,it does not work correct.

  6. Andrew,is there a way to import a model to 3dc just like it is done in other 3d apps? I mean, not to change the carcass resolotion,I only want to open a obj file,and retopo the model. sometimes,we only want use 3dc as a single retopo tool.I used commands->import external mesh,it crashs.if 3dc can import external mesh in retopo mode,how to deal with the existing one? How about to use file->import model to import an external mesh whose carcass resolotion has not been changed?
  7. Andrew,I have some ideas to improve retopo tool and make it work more friendly. Now the retopo tool has excellent functions,but organized not so good. What is the real reason make it a bit disordered? There are two workflow "select and operate" and "select then operate" in 3d modeling apps(in a sense retopoing is just modeling) ,"select and operate" is more effective when we only select a single element.but "select then operate" is a more common workflow,so 3dc should take it as a default workflow.The efficiency of "select and operate" depend on the efficiency of selection.so a high-efficiency selection system is the key to work friendly and more effective. for example,if we can quickly select single/an area/continuous/rings/loops/all/ of vertices/edges/faces,then hit delete to erase the selected elements,we do not need "delete polygons","delete edges","clear mesh". Silo is a high-efficiency 3d modeling app,so it has a effective selection system: there is a powerful selection mode in silo: Multi Selection Mode With this mode, faces, edges, and vertices will all be selectable, although you can still only select components of one type at a time. If you have an edge selected, for example, you will only be able to select edges until you deselect everything, at which point you can select any edge, vertex, or face and continue selecting more of that component. Many users use this mode almost exclusively rather than specifying one of the component types. and there are three selection style:paint,area,lassio. select rings:double LMB click select loops:double MMB click select continuous path(edges,faces):select the first element, shift+double click LMB with the effective selection mode and style,and together with hotkey "del", "insert","backspace",LMB to select and RMB to tweak(operate), the retopo tool may only need "Add polygons","select and operate" "draw stroke" or "tweak with brush".
  8. when I delete a quad face,I can use add quads to fill the hole,but how to fill a triangle hole? why the add polygons can't be used to fill hole?

Andrew,I read all the hints more carefully and test the retopo tools seriously.Great work!Andrew,but I have a small idea about the select and operate tool.why not make automatic selecting? just like it does within tweak vertices tool,we can automatically select and tweak a vertices/edge/face with all this checkers on.LMB to select and RMB to Move/slide,so the retopo tool bar may seems to be more cleanlily.

Andrew,I have to say,the retopo tool in 2.10 beta2 come to a mass.I test the retopo tool every beta version form 2.10 beta1A to beta2, so let's summarize: 1),Add polygons:can be used to split any configuration of edges,basic tool,perfect. 2),select and operate:bad,since the tweak vertices tool can move vertices/edges/faces/edge loops/edge rings, why is the benefit of it?you maybe make it to operate multi elements,but select and then operate is very ineffective.about multi selecting and operating,I think should add to tweak vertices(the name is best to be "tweak" or "tweak elements") 3),Add quads:perfect. 4),delete polygons/edges:best combine to "delete elements",since you have made "tweak vertices" tool to tweak vertices/edges/faces/edge loops/edge rings,why can't delete element as the same of that? 5),collapse edges:nice 6),split edge rings:nice 7),tweak vertices:nearly perfect,now it can merge vertics.if we can hold down "ctrl" and LMB click to select multi elements,release ctrl and drag to tweak them would be best.Another function should be add to it, if we select the boundary edge(s), hold down "shift" and drag can extrude out new quads.it can fast grow polygons.(it is the "extrude edges tool" that was asked for many times) 8)slide edges:the tweak vertices can slide edges,so it is unnecessary. 9)tweak with brush:perfect 10)draw stroke:perfect but where is " subdividing individual faces, incremental subdivision"? How to "make retopo mesh from current low-poly mesh" and"import retopo mesh"? I don't think other tools is necessary,just improve the existent tools or functions,the retopo tool in 3dc would be the best!

I don't think marquee tool is complex to you :lol: ,because the technique you have already used in 3dc.In my view,we can draw one or more closed splines,then activate the area inside/outside or between the splines. the actived area is the working area,and others is the freeze area.the marqee tool should easly switch the working area and the freeze area by one click.
  13. I have used spline as marquee tool in 3dc.usually I make a closed spline,then I press enter to draw it out,so I can fill inside of it ! :lol:

Andrew,this time I think I really have a big idea :lol: please take it serious the spline tool is my most favorite tool,and I think it is the most magic tool you have made.we can use it to draw, to put text,to put picture,to retopo, but it is never the all what it can do. 1)it can be used as marquee tool, what was asked for many users for many times. when the spline is closed, it is just a marquee tool.The marquee tool is much better than freeze tool.Andrew,please have a look at the Helmet tutorial in this forum.while filling an area of the helmet,it must to freeze an area then invert it,it is inefficient.if a closed spline is used to define an area,we can fill inside or outside of it simply,need't to invert it frequently.Most of all, it is a fully editable marquee tool,better than the marquee tool in photoshop.if you will make closed spline as marqee, I have three small advise.a)a spline should fully snap to the surface of a model,especially the curved surface,as it do in retopo tool.B)It should allow to create several splines at a time,allow to duplicate and scale splines,that will help to define annular area or more complicated area.C)Basic shapes like rectangle or ellipse should be add to it.BTW, I think masks also should be throw away. 2)it can be used as strip. Andrew, in fact i don't understand why you make strip,to make chain or seams of cloth?I think with some kinds of pen shape draw along a spline will make what the "strip" do, of cause , it should be controlled by numbers of repetitions of pen shape or spacing interval of pen shapes.

  16. I second that,Andrew,if you really do a perfect app,as time goes by,the increase rate would be exponential!but now, perhaps the income of 3d coat is not so big,just keep up you remarkable work,and waiting for the explosive growth of 3d coat!
  17. Andrew,The most important thing I want to remind you is that several users have said they NEVER successfully run GL version!
  18. Andrew,Please have a look at the attached pic,I want to explain to you what is merge vertexs.I think the best way to do that is adding an additional function to the tweak vertexs tool,when tweaking one vertex to another,it can snap and merge the two points together.
  19. Using the collapse edges tool would merge two vertexs to one,but it is inconvenienced.Please have a look at the attached pic,I think the best way to do that is using the tweak vertexs tool,move one to another then snap and merge together.

  22. Andrew,the GL version never successfully runs on my pc,all crash reports had sent to you.

Andrew,I believe most of people like to draw a splines by click step by step,not draging the mouse, because click step by step can making more exact splines and feel more easy to control.So the draw stroke tool should be maked to draw a splines by click step by step by default. ctrl+click to make a splines seems a bit discomfort especially when navigating.
