Reputable Contributor AbnRanger Posted November 6, 2012 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted November 6, 2012 Decided to go ahead put a longtime request on Mantis for others to chime in on the matter. That is for 3D Coat to both Update (recompile) the CUDA code to CUDA 4 or 5, and expand it's usage throughout the Voxel toolset (especially with the Move and Pose tools, and all brushing operations) and also into the Paint Room. At one point Andrew said he would visit CUDA again. But as in life, the most beneficial things are often the most difficult things. Multi-threading took months to complete (a few years ago), but made a huge difference. Still, CPU multi-threading falls short in many circumstances (large brush sizes, mainly), and just can't handle tasks that the GPU specializes in (real time texturing an Poly crunching/tesselation). If you'd like development focus to shift from small feature additions for a while, to performance (and stability, of course), please add your vote (+1) to this Mantis request. Thanks. http://3d-coat.com/m...view.php?id=
Reputable Contributor AbnRanger Posted November 7, 2012 Author Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted November 7, 2012 ....so, everybody is good with the lagging of large brushes and slow deformation when using the Pose or Move tool? Contributor TimmyZDesign Posted November 8, 2012 Contributor Report Share Posted November 8, 2012 I voted for it! I love the CUDA Smooth Boost option in the Voxels menu! If we could have this kind of boost on more brushes, that would be wonderful!
