Member riuthamus Posted August 21, 2013 Member Report Share Posted August 21, 2013 (edited) Long story short, I created a low polygon model for use within our game. Most low polygon games dont use normal maps ( least that I knew of ) so I never thought to make them. We decided to try out a normal map and it looked amazing except for the seams. After doing some searching most game developers make a very high polygon mesh and then use that for the normal by baking it. My question is simple, can I use 3dcoat to create a voxelized version of my current low polygon. Sclupt in the details, and then bake that back down to the low polygon model? This is the current normal on the model: This is the current normal map ( using a 2d editor ) Edited August 21, 2013 by riuthamus
Reputable Contributor AbnRanger Posted August 21, 2013 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted August 21, 2013 Sure, that is a typical workflow in 3D Coat. These videos might help explain the workflow a bit... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=839ZKEOeOAU&list=PLlQ3JITh9bXOfcZqGuO8gClZisN6yUd1x&index=16 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYaojBQSrpg&list=PLlQ3JITh9bXOfcZqGuO8gClZisN6yUd1x http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJDNyLKGGaU&list=PL0614F2A03AD725CD&index=

Javis
You could also just bring in your low poly model and paint your normal maps directly to the mesh, or any combination of voxel/poly sculpting and direct texture painting. Looking forward to hearing your experience and see your results (assuming you can share the results of course). Cheers.
