New Member Guts Posted September 27, 2013 New Member Report Share Posted September 27, 2013 Hello I'm having a problem trying to use the import for autopo option in 3D Coat trial. I'm using zbrush and exporting them as .OBJ files and when I go to import it with this option in 3D Coat I get invisible scene with object in it. I can only get hte object visible when I import it as a reference mesh into 3D Coat. Is there anyway to fix this? I've included some pictures of zbrush and 3D coat. Contributor Malo Posted September 27, 2013 Contributor Report Share Posted September 27, 2013 (edited) 1. Use Import -> Import mesh for Voxelizing 2. Scale it up to your needs and use Merge without voxelizing. Klick on Apply 3. Use Autopo -> rightklick on the Voxlayer Object. I think, it is possible that your OBJ is to small and cant be created in the Voxel room. Edit: Dont think about the scaling, that is only a visual effect in 3d coat. If you export your retopo, it have the same size as the original import of your OBJ. Edited September 27, 2013 by Malo

Contributor TimmyZDesign Posted September 27, 2013 Contributor Report Share Posted September 27, 2013 Yes, I have noticed this occasional problem too. I think maybe it is a bug in 3D-Coat. I have found work-arounds for it though, but can't remember what it exactly the workaround was... Try importing your Zbrush OBJ to Maya, or some other 3D app first, then export from there and import that new one into 3D-Coat. I think that fixed it for me. Also, maybe it has something to do with the shader I think. (Unsupported shader in 3D-Coat). Try making it a very standard Blinn, or Lambert or something before importing to 3D-Coat, and try changing the shaders in 3D-Coat too. I think that might fix it too. I wish I could remember the exact thing to fix it, but I don't have time now to check it out for you because I am on a deadline for a client (just taking a short break to skim the forums...) Good luck! EDIT: See my post below!
Contributor TimmyZDesign Posted September 27, 2013 Contributor Report Share Posted September 27, 2013 Ha ha! I decided to go ahead and troubleshoot this, just to figure it out once and for all, and I think I finally found the solution! When you are importing, choose "merge without voxelizing" in the Tool Options, but then also be sure to change your voxel volume to Surface Mode BEFORE you click on Apply in the Tool Options box! New Member Guts Posted September 28, 2013 Author New Member Report Share Posted September 28, 2013 Thanks man, I gave those options a try and that works. At first I had some issues still for some reason so what I decided to do is just do half the teeth of this werewolf I'm working on in a scene instead of one at a time. I was afraid polygon count might be too high to import it but it worked no problem. So as long as I have enough mesh .objs in the scene it shows up using import for autopo. Thanks again guys! New Member Himinglaeva Posted January 25, 2015 New Member Report Share Posted January 25, 2015 Thank you, the first suggestion did it for me. Thank you for all fixes though. Himi
