Spacemouse on Linux 3D-Coat Help?

I was wondering if anyone could help me get my spacemouse working with 3D-Coat in Linux.  I've tried the default, and it didn't work.  I found https://sourceforge.net/projects/spacenav/?source=typ_redirect which is good, because I didn't want to set those in some config file.  However, none of this seems to make it work in 3D-Coat.  I recall reading that Andrew was going to add this shortly in 2009, so I foolishly assumed that it would be in there by now.  Is there something I'm missing, or some hack I can do to make it work.  It's kinda crucial to how I sculpt with the navigator in my left hand and the pen in the right.  Moving the pipeline to windows just isn't going to be possible.

Honestly, I expected better of 3Dconnection, but this is a little disappointing.

(P.S. Still love the program and everything, I'm just kinda anxious about my options).
