Advanced Member akira Posted March 16, 2009 Advanced Member Report Share Posted March 16, 2009 A new paper talking about a new approach to efficiently render large volumetric data sets. Maybe it's a solution to overcome the memory limit of RGBA voxel display. In the video they demonstrated a 8192^3 voxel scene at 60fps on a 8800GTX, and a 2048^3 RGBA voxel CT scan human at 20fps, pretty impressive. Advanced Member kay_Eva Posted March 16, 2009 Advanced Member Report Share Posted March 16, 2009 So you mean normal maps will no longer be necessary for game engines. You could just import a volumetric model directly into the game engine? Whooo hooo. You've gotten me all excited akira
Advanced Member ldzywsj Posted March 17, 2009 Advanced Member Report Share Posted March 17, 2009 Wow,really impressed!Hope Andrew will get some idea from them to improve the performance of VS on large scenes! Here are so many paper on CG: http://artis.imag.fr/Publications/index.php?pg=

Advanced Member Jokermax Posted March 18, 2009 Advanced Member Report Share Posted March 18, 2009 That's very cool, thanks for the link Akira. It is interesting how many different companies and researchers are narrowing their focus on the realtime rendering of volumetric data
