Member Ian Thompson Posted November 29, 2009 Member Report Share Posted November 29, 2009 Hi, This is the Sun Dragon, I was going to call it "Alien 1" but after I pressed the gold texture I decided on a new name. Im really trying to work through all the features on 3D Coat to see what it can do. I seem to be only scratching the surface at the moment but the ability to add primatives and subtract them from one another on different layers has proved really helpful for creating the eye and eyelids. My attemt at retopology is awful, I think you're supposed to stick to quads and avoid triangles and polygons. Still I expect I will find out how important this is soon. Thanks Ian
Member Yearoftheox Posted November 30, 2009 Member Report Share Posted November 30, 2009 Looks fine to me. If you're not planning on animating this, tri's and ngons aren't an issue. They only matter if you're sudividing the mesh, where tris and ngons give unpredictable results, or mess up edge loops. PS. I am by no means an expert, just giving my 2 cents. (hope I dont sound like a knowitall)
Contributor 3d_sculptress Posted November 30, 2009 Contributor Report Share Posted November 30, 2009 that's looking good.....Yearoftheox, that's my understanding, too, that quadrangulating is mainly neccassary only if animating or subdividing. you don't think you'lll subdivide at some point ? either way, look forward to seeing it progress
Member Ian Thompson Posted December 8, 2009 Author Member Report Share Posted December 8, 2009 Thanks for the thoughts. I decided to re-retopologise and it ended up looking much like the first attempt. I was going to animate it but have since decided to move on to another idea. Its been a really useful experience to try and use all the features in 3D coat, hopfully I can plan my next model with some better understanding of the workflow. I can see allsorts wrong with the actual design but not to worry. Thanks Ian re-retopology sundragon render
