Member madcap Posted February 15, 2010 Member Report Share Posted February 15, 2010 Hi Sorry for the numpty question but which tools do I use to cut a hole on a voxel object? I tried the 'cut & clone' tool but that tool cuts all the way through.... Please advise. Thanks.
Advanced Member ifxs Posted February 15, 2010 Advanced Member Report Share Posted February 15, 2010 subtract one layer from another using the vox tree(right click on the layer you want to subtract), or limit the depth of your cut and close by checking the limit depth box in the E panel(e key)

Advanced Member The Candy-floss Kid Posted February 17, 2010 Advanced Member Report Share Posted February 17, 2010 Using the extrude tool's adjustable depth settings with a suitable brush shape is also a fast way of doing this, holding the cntrl key down to carve in. Stamp mode or the circular marquee options will give you better placement control. You can also draw shapes with the spline curves and hold cntrl + enter to punch the carved shape in. Using the move tool with cntrl held down and a sharp edged brush will also allow you to dig into the form relative to the surface normals. This works using the pen pressure options not stamp mode etc. The carve tool with stamp mode and the cntrl key depressed is also handy but the sides of the hole can sometimes be noisy. Lastly the sphere tool will give you a curved inner hole.
philnolan3d
The easiest way: http://screencast.com/t/YTM5YzkxZWIt (hold Ctrl while drawing) I used Carve in my example but it will work with some other tools too (which ones seems random to me)
Member madcap Posted February 18, 2010 Author Member Report Share Posted February 18, 2010 Thanks Phil. I presume one can use the 'depth' variable to control the depth of the cut? Thanks.
philnolan3d
If you check the box yes, otherwise it cuts all the way through. Like I said though, only with some tools. With others it won't cut all the way and you can't control the depth amount.
