New Member bobster Posted May 1, 2011 New Member Report Share Posted May 1, 2011 Does anyone have a good example of a 3D Coat to Houdini implementation of Ptex?
Advanced Member L'Ancien Regime Posted May 1, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 1, 2011 That is a very good question; http://www.3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=6162&st=20&p=52128&hl=+ptex%20+mantra&fromsearch=1entry52128 There is a video out on rendering in Mantra that touches on rendering PTex in Mantra but it doesn't go directly into how to turn this into a slick pipeline between 3d Coat and Houdini/Mantra. http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1412&Itemid=305 The PTex rendering part is near the end of this video.. Advanced Member L'Ancien Regime Posted May 12, 2011 Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 12, 2011 You know, it's pretty sad that if I write "rendering ptex in mantra" into Google, this is the first hit I get. I've got 5 videos in my collection that I've gleaned here and there on this rather important subject and THREE OF THEM DON'T HAVE SOUND AND ARE OF DEPLORABLE QUALITY. Of the other two one is only a tacked on segment of two or three minutes to a Houdini Master Class and the other is Peter Bomar where he works with texture maps to Houdini from 3d Coat BUT IT DOESN'T DEAL WITH PTEX. This is the kind of support that Houdini gives to PTex; http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini11.0/shade/ptex Big help eh? Please, will someone make a proper comprehensive guide, written or video on how to implement PTEX between 3d Coat and Houdini??

Member LordMoggy Posted May 16, 2011 Member Report Share Posted May 16, 2011 [ It seems all ptex related info is scare even for other packages. But i cant wait to see it fully available for 3d gaming in my modeling pipeline.

But i cant wait to see it fully available for 3d gaming in my modeling pipeline. There's a good amount on Ptex for Pixar Renderman in the Escape Studio full tutorial that comes with it. And Renderman is now only $1300 for the Renderman Studio/maya combo.. That course alone would cost you that much. it is sad though that if I google "PTEX Houdini Mantra" this is the first link that pops up.... Reputable Contributor digman Posted July 13, 2012 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted July 13, 2012 I found this tutorial on the net, It's a mudbox to houdini but most of the tutorial deals with importing and setting up the node system for rendering Ptex with Houdini's Mantra I do not use Houdini but the tutorial looked like it might be what you are looking for... Tutorial link: http://3dexport.com/...mudbox-houdini/ Just scroll pass the mudbox stuff... Link to the Houdini forum thread about the above tutorial... http://www.sidefx.co...7e253ddf088ff0e Picture shows about flipping the ptex quads before exporting from 3DCoat. I'm not sure it that is necessary for Houdini. Anyway, I hope this helps some as the tutorial is from 2011 and things might have changed some...
