Advanced Member sculptactive Posted April 21, 2016 Advanced Member Report Share Posted April 21, 2016 (edited) I know this is a frequent question, but I have watched several videos and tried different ways but when I import my model into the sculpt room I end up with errors. Please see attachment soI am guessing I have not ticked the right boxes. First off on import it always shows the object in flat shade mode. I have tried increasing the resolution subdividing increasing Voxel Poly count When I hit apply I always end up with the errors shown. Help appreciated Edited April 21, 2016 by sculptactive
Contributor TimmyZDesign Posted April 21, 2016 Contributor Report Share Posted April 21, 2016 That looks to me like the import preview superimposed over the top of your mesh. When you import it shows a preview before you actually import. Only after you click on "Apply", then it will import the actual mesh, but the preview will still be visible until you exit the Import Tool. To exit the Import Tool, simply choose another tool in the toolbar, then the preview will go away, and you will finally see your actual mesh.

Now when I hit "apply/click another tool" the surface is smooth, but when I change to Voxel mode the mesh is shown as a Flat shade. (See attachment) Is this another box I have not ticked? Contributor ajz3d Posted April 21, 2016 Contributor Report Share Posted April 21, 2016 You have too much voxel resolution for a mesh that is too lowpoly. Either subdivide the mesh on import (if it is subdivisible) or decrease voxel resolution on layer conversion (input much lower amount of triangles in the modal window that pops up when you are converting a VoxTree layer to voxel mode).

Contributor Tony Nemo Posted April 21, 2016 Contributor Report Share Posted April 21, 2016 I wonder how many times you would need to press the "Smooth All" button to get a nice surface. Probably more efficient to do it right the first time.
Advanced Member sculptactive Posted April 22, 2016 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted April 22, 2016 (edited) I have modeled this object in Modo saved as an Obj file. When importing a model to the sculpt room is it better that it is a low poly or a high poly model or does it not matter?
