  1. To answer my own question I found by using the merge tool by either first selecting a .obj mesh of my choice from the drop down list (or importing a mesh) - switching the tools application to " on pen" gave me the result I was looking for. Result = 1 happy bunny with a bruised cheek. Denigrating anyone? I don't believe so , merely pointing out a statement of fact. As for your fantastic leaps of imagination that I intend to insult anyone well... I do agree I could have been more cordial and grateful in the way I handled being "sarcasticated" upon. Sometimes we all ask dumb questions. Let us hug and make up? :-)
  2. Ah the familiar slap of sarcasm. I shall endeavor to do my best - that's all we can ask.
  3. There is indeed such a command but when I press it only a default picture appears but no navigational option to select another image. Perhaps this is not allowed in the trial version?
  4. Hi folks, I'm trying to find a way of adding a background image. At the moment 3Dcoat seems to default to some groovy fractal image but I can't find a way to navigate to an image of my own choosing? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
  5. Is it possible in 3D Coat's voxel room to paint out and place single objects/imported meshes like the drag rectangle stroke in ZBrush? I know the other strokes allow the painting of continuous meshes , ropes, tentacles etc Many thanks
  6. Hi Peter ,I greatly enjoyed reading your points on this and to my mind it throws open a topic often overlooked by many " overly edited" video tutorials which is this... The best video tutorials in my opinion are the ones that keep the "mistakes" and show the demonstrator explaining how they're resolving the issues they are running into and why. This way the philosophy of problem solving and the technical techniques are communicated simultaneously.
  7. Thanks for that Tim , I did find this great video by Phil on vimeo vimeo -retopology but sadly with no dialog. For us newbies just hearing somebody talking through some of the process and thinking whilst using the tools would be of great benefit. Phil if your listening ? :-)
  8. Hi Folks, I'm a total novice to retopology. I'm wondering if there are any good video tutorials out there with dialog that walk through the retopology tools in 3D Coat and also help explain the process / thinking / method to get the best results? Many thanks
  9. From my early experiments in 3D Coat thought it would be a nice addition to be able to use texture maps as ground planes or background planes that could utilize alphas e.g if you wanted to add details like trees in the background these could be positionable image planes with alphas to knock out the trees etc. Having the ability for these to accept shadows or not would also be a cute addition or to be shadow catching objects for use in photoshop etc. Do I ask too much ? :-)
  10. As mac users are not habituated in the habit of right mouse clicks it would be fantastic to have 3D coat come with the default of having the apple cmnd key depressed in combination with left click function as a right mouse click. As a mac user this simple addition would make an enormous difference I feel. Many thanks
  11. There have been many versions of the Mac keyboard. The newer ones don't have an insert key, instead it has been replaced by the fn key. Or so I just googled - hope that helps
  12. Many thanks cakeller for how to add a background to a render tip as well as the alpha choice - much appreciated indeed. From having a quick looksee I'm not sure whether the alpha has to be a separate render - it would be nice if there was .psd option for a single render image file + alpha. The thought occurred to me it would also be cute if there were ground planes / shadow catcher option that a texture map could be added too as well as a background option. 3d_sculptress , thank you so much for the generosity of your great advice. I can't wait to give all your suggestions/tips a try and see how I get on. It would be lovely to carry on painting just on voxels or to have voxels sculpt relief and colour at the same time. Perhaps this is done by adding new shaders as an available palette before starting work? Much to try - much to experiment with and all fun. I'm certainly hooked on the possibilities of 3D Coat as creative tool and construction environment that will inspire new designs and new ways of thinking in 3D as well as investigating it's pragmatic uses as a retopology tool with other applications.
  13. My first play in 3D Coat with the demo. I'm supposedly testing it for retopology but somehow got hooked on voxels first and the idea of creating whole scenes within the application. There's something about it that makes me want to play :-) Can you add painted backdrops in the render? How do I color my voxel models? I know nothing :-)
  14. Thank you lc8b105 and Phil I shall give this a go. My wacom is very basic but it does have the button on the pen.
  15. Thanks Phil, Please go easy on me :-) I've only just been introduced to 3d coat for the first time. Many thanks lc8b105, this will make things much easier for me now. One last question.... So can I make the apple command key the replacement for the right click so I don't have to take my hand off my wacom pen?
  16. I'm very interested in the potential of 3D-Coat but my immediate initial mac user experience has been thrown somewhat into disarray. Even though I do have a left/right and scroll mouse, as a mac user my muscle memory usually leads me to use either cntrl or command as the right mouse alternative. Is there a way to map the apple command key as the right mouse button? I was also hoping for some of the same intuitive keyboard navigation shortcuts with zoom and pan as in other 3d applications such as Lightwave. Can these kind of settings also be remapped? Many thanks Just like to add one further observation as somebody trialling 3D Coat for the first time: Voxels by their nature suggest an intuitive sculpting process - for most of us these days this implies the use of a wacom and not a mouse and therefore as a user I would have intuitively expected a keyboard approach in tandem with wacom use.
