  1. Yes, I can't login either and when I submit my email address for "Forgot my password", it says it cannot find my account.
  2. Maybe the solution is to add a couple "custom" scale boxes below the existing ones and make the scale values persistent (the values will stay the same each time 3D Brush is loaded, until the user changes them.) I'm assuming the length value is always meters. If you enter the value 3.28084 in the scale box, the resulting length value is in feet. Make a 1 foot cube in LW and import it into 3D Brush (unsmoothed). With the scale set to 3.28084, the length across each face will be real close to 1 (foot). If you put 39.37 (3.28084 x 12) in the scale you would get a measurement of "real close to 12 (inches). Here's a possible way to implement some custom scales. This leaves it to the user to enter their scaling value(s) and labels. Arrow 1 is where the user's scaling value is set. Arrow 2 points to the label the user enters. Arrow 3 will be the result of the Scale value (arrow 1) x Measure value (arrow 4). So if the value where arrow 4 points is 1, the value where arrow 3 points would be 3.28084 (feet in 1 meter). Let the user be responsible for the scales. It would be easy for us to make a conversion chart up for the help files. Anyway, this may be one way to implement a conversion/measure tool.

    79$

There have been various prices through the holidays. You can see some here: http://3d-brushnews.blogspot.com/ I doubt the price will come down, and there's so many features being added almost weekly. I would rate it as a great value.
  4. Yes, the sky looks a bit strange, but it's an actual photograph I took of some weird looking clouds taken here in San Diego last summer.
  5. I spent a little more time trying different terrain/rock shapes. In this scene, everything except the sky and plants was done by importing simple cube or disk objects into 3D Brush and sculpting there. The final texturing and rendering was done in Bryce. I'm real happy with 3D Brush and the ease of making unusual rock shapes quickly.
  6. Actually, it's not really a mouse. You can easily rotate, pan, zoom your object with it. It's not made for selecting or painting. Andrew implemented it very quick and once you get used to using one, you probably wouldn't want to go without one. I can actually paint or sculpt on the object while rotating it. Here's the link to the vendors site: http://www.3dconnexion.com/
  7. Maybe this can already be done and I haven't found it, but what I would like to see is a way to lock the CTRL and SHIFT keys when using the pen and other paint/sculpt tools. The main reason is, I use the 3DConnexion device (3D Mouse) with one hand and my regular mouse in the other. So depressing and smoothing require the Control or Shift key to be depressed, which is awkward with both hands in use. Maybe Control Lock and Shift Lock buttons on screen (maybe on the navigator?)
  8. Thanks! I think I'll try to make something better for Vue when I get some time. These were just quick little experiments. I need to make some "terrain" brushes. I plan on introducing this use of 3D-Brush on the Bryce and Vue forums -- maybe I can make a tutorial (work-flow).
  9. Hi -- I was wondering how 3D-Brush would work for generating terrain, so I tried making a few to be rendered in Bryce. I didn't spend much time -- probably 5 minutes on each, and each was made from a cube. Just experimented with different brushes and sculpting. I textured these in Bryce, using procedural (textures.) One of the harder things to accomplish in most dedicated terrain generators is overhangs. I found this is easy to do with 3D-Brush.
  10. I still have trouble getting used to mouse-over menus (like moving the cursor over the pen icon and having the menu appear) and I'm not sure that's the best way to implement the interface. I use a dual monitor system so I invariably activate one o the menus on the left when I move my cursor to the right to get to my secondary monitor. And trying to get to the File menu, usually activates one of the menus (tools) below it. Anyway, would it be a major effort to leave the view-port area as is but make it necessary to single-click the rest of the icons/menus? Also, it would then be possible to make the menus detachable so I could move some to my other monitor (similar to Photoshop's interface.) That said, it may be only me that feels this way and there are good reasons the program is designed as it is. So if a majority like it the way it is currently implemented, by all means, don't change it. I can get used to it. This is one great program.!
  11. A big thanks, Andrew! I had only a few minutes to check it but my Space Pilot worked right away -- it even seemed to have a comfortable rotation/pan/zoom rate without changing any parameters! I see a whole bunch of options on the options panel too.
  12. That is great news! 3DBrush is a perfect application for 3DMouse support. I am naturally left-handed, but some years ago, my job was at a facility that used Unix workstations and the desks were set up with the optical corded mouse on the right. It was a major effort to reconfigure it, so I started using the mouse right-handed (most of the time I was in the vi editor anyway.) Anyway, I can easily use my 3DCMouse with my right hand and regular mouse with the left (or graphics pen with the left) which is the way it is intended to be used. When you link the pan/zoom/rotate to the 3DC controller, maybe you can provide some sensitivity sliders so we can match our systems. I think this ca be doe with the included device software, but it may work better (easier) in 3DBrush. And I'll be happy to test if you need it.
  13. Andrew, I inherited a 3Dconnexion Pilot, which is one of many 3D mouse models. I could help testing if you want. Also, here have been quite a few requests on the Newtek forums for 3D mouse support for Lightwave, so I suspect if you post a request for testing help there, it may get quite a few responses (an maybe some sales too!) Here's a link to a search for "space mouse" on the Newtek forum that has references: http://www.newtek.com/forums/search.php?searchid=688109 It's called by many different names so it can get confusing, but most are from: http://www.3dconnexion.com/index.php
  14. Yes, I woulld like to see this too. Maybe an Options or Preferences setting. Also, it might be nice to be able to set default folders by file types. I've gotten used to Lightwave's content directory system but I'm sure there's many other ways to implement this. Maybe a single choice......... [x] Single [browse button] or if Single not checked [ ] 3D-Brush [browse button] [ ] Objects [browse button] [ ] Normal maps [browse button] [ ] etc. [browse button]
  15. Yes, maybe a exportFileName_info.txt file.
  16. I noticed when exporting a Lightwave object (.lwo) and using the default selections (color, spec, tan, bump, padding) that in the middle of the sequence, there's an information message concerning "Factor of depth". This stops the export process until the message is acknowledged, either by clicking OK or the "X". Since it's only for information purposes, wouldn't it be better to display the message at the end of the export sequence? I like to take a break during longer processes like exporting and come back to see the process finished. And I can always note the factor of depth when the process is finished (if the message is displayed at the end.)
  17. I would agree. Establish the feature set and then work on speed issues. Trying to do both at the same time would be very difficult. Multi-threading and (maybe) an x64 version would be nice.
  18. Yes, I do all my win XP, Newtek, Adobe, and many other updates without a problem. I did see someone else complain on the Newtek Lightwave forum about downloading problems from MediaFire.
  19. Finally, on the third try, I got the file save dialog box. I entered the download folder and immediately received a "download complete". I checked the file and it was 0 bytes.
  20. Well, twice now I've waited over a half hour with the "your download is starting" message and nothing. It never starts - Firefox or IE.

    Updaes

[Edit] Guess I can't spell "Updates" and couldn't figure out how to edit the topic! Hi, first post here. I was following a thread on the Newtek (Lightwave) forum and there was an update to 3D-Brush mentioned: http://download472.mediafire.com/cbcs2bely...sh-2-01E-en.exe I've been trying to download this file, but can't get past around 10mb of the 27mb size. Now it may be because of my slow connection (dialup) but I've downloaded bigger file elsewhere. My question is, how will and where future updates be offered to registered owners of 3D-Brush2? The site above will not work for me. Are there alternatives? Thanks, Jerry
