  1. ui panels still some bugs. sometimes panels are wider than they should be or they just expand and contract. resetting the page helps sometimes. What is the difference between doing sculpting in sculpt tab and paint tab? Any sculpting I do in sculpt tab and clicking paint tab theres a very noticeable lag and the sculpting doesn't carry over to paint.
  2. is the voxel in 3dc aiming for the sculpting capability of zbrush or mudbox? I think voxel is a better version of zspheres. Very fine detail and smooth brush feel can't be achieved with voxel I think. I hope that's not the case but playing zbrush at work it just feels smoother and responsive. But I'm not buying myself zbrush. Only maybe 5% of vfx work is character stuff. 3dc is enough for me.
  3. For me its the month of May that I'm thinking its a good month to release 3dc before zbrush, mudbox add more features. But so many bugs I think we wont get stable release this month. Its better to wait for stable release than people complaining about very buggy software. Speaking of features, is there anything similar to zbrush's projection master in other packages? That feature just makes hard surface modelling much easier.
  4. I would like to scan pages of CGworld japan but wouldn't we get in trouble for that? Nice read btw.
  5. Seems like someone can't take any crits. And arguing for the sake of arguing. You're the same in the newtek forums defending 3dmax in a NEWTEK forum. if only your work spoke for itself with max. I love max and use it at work but I don't defend it like you do. Lol!. You're all positive over there. You seem to have missed that I pointed out first it read 3DOC but chose to see only others. Why dont you place the graphic icon in at center of the letter D or C since you think your logo doesn't try to integrate the graphic with the letters. graphic design 101 to you, too. Too much ego can make people over confident of their knowledge and skillset. So lets all read books and watch tutorial more.
  6. Is the voxel curve tool buggy for anyone else? I can't move the points in the curve but able to scale them. I think the gizmo should have pre highlighting on mouse over since I dont know if I'm clicking the xyz of the gizmo.
  7. Your post about graphic 101 is more patronizing. We are all artists here but seems you can't really take any crit with your work so better read a book about it. We all read books or watch tutorials. You don't think its infused? Again take a look at the other logos. They are in fact separated and no need to blame 3dc graphic icon that it doesn't lend itself to design that keeps it separated or having limited options with it, being constrained, etc.
  8. But the difference is you chose to integrate/infuse the letters with the graphic icon which makes it rather flat, confusing and it reads like 3DOC. Its ok to make it simple but they do follow a guideline beyond graphic design 101. There's some books on corporate logo design you can read or buy. See the difference. The text is not being forced on the logo. Hth
  9. Actually the zbrush logo is better than that with depth http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f294/tti...rush_logo_2.jpg I think the logo doesn't have to be 3dc integrated into the logo. Look at max, newtek, mudbox, etc. A graphic symbol is the most integral part of the design not the letters. So it is Andrews call in the end what graphic icon to represent his product.
  10. All logos look flat. There's no depth to the design of the letters like a paper cutout or shaded previs anim. I think for some people they would read it as 3DOC. Maybe try the ball logo with smaller letters placed at different areas in/out the logo to make it more interesting.
  11. I'm sure he doesn't mean any disrespect. People even Andrew referred to you as shadow. sonk, your monster is infuencing some vote. The posts in some forums state they like yours better because of the monster .
  12. I got the same error. The ui programming seems to be buggy. It doesn't feel solid at all. Sometimes flickering and panels going all over the place.
  13. The new ui design that is being developed is fine. Its based on shadows design as Andrew said. So shadow is the winner afterall. Its simple and sleek like photoshop. For now its more important to fix bugs than to make ui look like modo, max, lw, etc. If 3dc will be released this May then he has more pertinent matters to attend to.
  14. Isn't it called shader tree in modo? Its like a stack of scene, objects, camera, light, images, shaders, and then within those are subtrees. The first weeks I used it, it was clunky. Click click click. Too much properties squeezed into a small panel. Render pass management was a breeze though with that tree.
  15. Its cleaner. Those rows that are vertical, I don't like them in modo either. Text tabs are more intuitive horizontally oriented like rows. How about a dropdown like maya. Saves space, easy to navigate. Something like a shadertree is coming out on the right. Oh no! Hehe. Putting all the UV,shaders, etc, like that in modo is something people either hate or love. There's just a wierd space in between that perspective and control icons. Overall I think a more standard way is to put those vertical tabs to the perspective area as before in line with the control to the right -3d,2d,zoom, etc. And then put the perspective function within the viewport like max and make it clickable. You can further expand the viewport horizontally when the vertical tabs are removed.
  16. Glad 3dc is back. Anyone heard Cuda will be discontinued by nvidia?
  17. I think you missed my post about your mock up looking like modo. And I mentioned maya's hotbox over a month ago that it is cool but most definitely patented. Its just more eyecandy imho like max viewport orbit. In any case I like both gui so far. Its very standard to modern gui which is a good thing. What is needed for 3dc is to be powerful then the veteran zbrush, mudbox users would take a look. No amount of eyecandy would draw them to less powerful tools. We need their talent. The weta people, ilm, etc Your talking about secret of mana. My friend works at squaresoft japan. :P
  18. There are many ps users who would like to do 3D. Matt painters, character illustrators who are featured in cgtalk Expose use zbrush. And anyway your mock up looks very photoshop with 3dc tools placed in there. Looks different than shadows or andrew but still photoshopy. I dont see any 3D specialization in all the mock ups. They're all basically putting the tools of 3dc in a new gui so far. Which is not bad, its just the trend to do the gui in modern appz so they all look similar. The radial interface would be 3dc specific to separate it from a ps clone. More of eyecandy though.
  19. Looks really good Sonk. Let the voting begin :P The tabs remind me of modo/ps cs4. Excellent!
  20. I vote for Shadows gui. The reason being that there are way more photoshop users. Don't cater to lw, max, maya users. They will use 3dc regardless of how beautiful the interface is as long as 3dc is powerful to compete with zbrush, mudbox. But by using shadows gui, which is familiar to ps users, you target many more artists who dont care about max,lw,etc because its too complicated. Many 2d artist would like to try 3d for illustration and stills but they say its too complicated to learn. monitors especially wide aspect imho can better be utilized by putting the tools on the sides leaving a big workspace in the center. The blender gui and other mockups I see have wasted tool space at the bottom. It looks cramped and obtrusive. Unless it was a graph, trackview no problem. But putting so many icons at the bottom of the screen is a waste of workspace.
  21. very interesting. I thought there would be more maya and max users. And most use it for hobby and top 2 is games. Interesting. it should change when 3dc looks more professional and more polished overall.
  22. isn't it possible to just redo the uv mapping? That's what I did with the penguin I made before. Andrew just redid the uv in the tutorial.
  23. It is May already? Is it? Hehe. Can't wait for the release.
  24. I forgot to mention poll 2 doesn't relate to which industry you're in but which industry you have actually used 3dcoat in. I'm sure there are applications we use just for hobby, etc even if you work for a game studio, etc. I haven't used 3dcoat for our company so I voted for hobby and doing concepts.
