  1. A bit late on this, but there is one problem I see. LWO with morphs can only be made in Lightwave, as I don't own it, is there another solution? I use Messiah, Blender, and Wings3D.
  2. I posted this question in normal map seams thread but I believe it will go unnoticed there. I have a mesh that I've created UVW map in 3d-coat and textures in 3d-coat. I found out that I need to add more polygons to my mesh. So I went back to wings3d and added more polygons. How do I replace my current object with the new one whilst keeping my uvw map and texture layers? Thanks
  3. Hello, here is my problem with UV seams/normal maps. Suggestions? Also, is it possible to update the mesh to a new one (I need to add some polygons) but keep the UVW map that I've created in 3d-Coat?
  4. I'll chime in and say thanks to Andrew as well. Doing an amazing job! I'm very surprised to see such a community connected developer!
  5. I attached the mesh to my post, seems it didn't attach? Imported a base mesh, auto-uv. Posted it here because people actually read this thread. Trying to attach again. I am not allowed to upload the file...
  6. Ok, so I'm having a major problem. Paint doesn't seem to work right on this mesh, it paints some of the backfaces but that's about it. Any ideas?
  7. Export low poly IS what you want. Export as a LWO and you are good to go.
  8. Sorry again if I sound stupid but I have the same meshes in paint and sculpt with normal maps and all, do you have them turned off? Voxels do not work in the paint room for me. There is much debate about the sculpt room on other threads, so I'm not saying it's fully featured. Again, you shouldn't be adjusting your facial features while you are painting. The model should be done by then. You say sculpting and detailing, not sure what that refers to buy I assume you mean voxel sculpting on both accounts. So here's the workflow: Voxel sculpt, retopo, uvw, bake, paint, export.
  9. If you don't like voxels why are you using 3d Coat? lol I am not familar with zbrush, as the last time I used it was when it first came out, before z-spheres. You should be finished with your mesh BEFORE you start painting. Other than that I don't see why you need to adjust the base mesh while you are painting. Plus I don't know what you mean by not knowing where the textures are in sculpt mode, they show here on my 3d Coat.
  10. Wait for the new liveclay and it should fix your performance issues with voxels. I do not find it silly that I have to be in a different room to move a mesh while I'm painting. I'd never want to accidentally move my mesh while painting. That's about all I can say as a new user!
  11. Thanks for the tips AbnRanger, that works much better now.
  12. This is the issue I've been having as well. The move tool's performance is just sub par. I guess it's a technical problem with voxels? Any work arounds for reshaping your model?
  13. pbowmar, probably the weak video card? So I am having a "problem" and I wanted to post here to see what others experiences is. While doing some voxel work with my wacom, it take over a second after I bring my pen tip off of the tablet before 3d-coat lets go. So what happens is that when I come back down with the pen onto the tablet it calculates the second or two of "movement" off of the tablet like I actually was pressing down. I don't know if it's my wacom drivers or a bug, or ?? But it really slows down the process and requires me to undo a ton. EDIT: I think it's mostly the move tool.
  14. Where did you get your scientific data? We still have an elementary understanding of our responses to graphical and textual info from what I gathered from skimming this paper http://www.ischool.utexas.edu/~huangsc/files/home/qualifying_paper_hsc_10312008.pdf An interesting read. The space bar menu is pretty rad, but again I'm going to have to become familiar with the icons before it helps in my speed of workflow.
  15. Actually I think it's easier to recognize words than icons because you all ready know what the words represent. With icons you have to learn new connections of the icon to the word in your brain. I've always been a fan of text buttons; when icons are concerned in I have to mouse over frequnetly to determine what it represents. As you can see we can agree to disagree because really it's preference and some brains work differently than others.
  16. Droplet brush mode, the mouse over text has some spelling error that should be "increasing". Mill, how do I check to see if my cpu's are being used?
  17. I have been working on the design of this character for years. I'm finally "done" with the model and off to texturing and morph targets currently. This is my first attempt at using 3d coat for more than 5 minutes. I spent about an hour playing with it I guess. It's not a final image by far, but I'm glad I can churn out painted textures so quickly. This way perhaps I'll choose a final texture before another year passes. The character is for a short film(s) project I'm working on. It's something I've had in my head slowly building for years. Just a few days ago I finished my first rough story board. Finally I have decided on the story! It can be a daunting task trying to get across ideas and concepts to your audience. He is supposed to be an 'everyman' with the powers of a god and the wisdom to know not to use it often if at all. I was originally going to do it all in stop motion, but the investment of money and time is so great that I decided to keep the medium which I have training in, CG. Oh yes almost forgot to add the model was created in Wings3d, and perhaps a bit of Blender. Not 100% as I've redone it countless times. Suggestions are welcome but I will be changing it heavily over the course of the next few days. Tips are also welcome. Why is there no Wings 3D app-link.... Here is an old 2008 version of the character if you are interested to see the evolution. I believe it's the same body mesh modified, but I completely scrapped the head.
  18. Hey, yeah I've been using "thedaemon" forever! hehe Yeah, I saw all your preaching on SetupTab, it's why I seriously considered 3d-Coat and subsequently purchased it. It's uv tools/ability to create morphs is helping me a bunch on my short film project. I think I may use 3d-coat for all of my background objects/scenery as well. Rapid prototyping and a nice retopo tool will go along way.
  19. Just to chime in here Bay, I'm using the same 266.58 drivers, windows 7 64bit but with a 9800Gtx+ and both DX and GL run fine. EDIT: http://www.3d-coat.com/files/3d-Coat-V35-16E-CUDA64.exe this version BeatKitano
  20. Greetings fellows, I'm Brandon Ayers, thedaemon as I call myself online. I've been doing 3d in general as a hobby since 1999 or so. I started with Blender and Wings 3d, went to college and learned 3ds max among other type of software. After that I joined animation mentor but I couldn't afford to finish the last 2 classes. I've never applied for any cg work so I still consider myself an amateur. I'm currently working on a short film that I hope will entertain and make my audience feel. I'm new to this software but I'm always glad to help a fellow artist. My current software usage is Wings 3d, Messiah:Studio, Blender, and soon 3d-coat.
  21. Javis, as usual you are my source of 3d coat knowledge! Thanks for the video, I was just coming back here to ask about how to create the morphs as I couldn't find anything in the manual at all.
  22. Thank you philnolan3d, I was not 100% sure. I'm super excited about working 3d-coat into my toolset!
