:)Good news! Though weird that the dodgy black line was going up the model. Mine usually gets sliced horizontally at the ground plane area.

Occasionly I get this or similar when a model is below the ground plane . But yours seems to be on the vertical plane. Maybe you have symmetry on...could that maybe affect it?

Yup... that's exactly how I would have done it...... -
I get this now and again. I think I nailed the problem.....or maybe I have not ....after a while I came to the conclusion it only happens when the object is intersecting the "floor" , that is , point zero on the grid. Maybe take a look and see. Is your object in that vicinity? Other than that ....no idea.....

Hee hee, I was going to ask that.....but I would be still non the wiser... I need to look at my old posts here , because I am sure someone tried to help me out last time . There may be a picture of a normal map node set up somewhere on here, I may have it on my computer but I spring clean the drive regularly.so prob not.

Thanks for your reply, I installed Blender ( again) a couple of days ago, so just in the process of wrapping my head around it again! What you said about a basic cycles material sounds intresting I will look into it, thanks.

I have used my Wacom Bamboo for the last five years, working great with 3dcoat . Though i have also had intermitant probs with the windows services( though not for ages now). What used to happen with me was that when I switched on my computer a little square would pop up that said "Tablet Driver Not Loaded" or something similar . The pen would sort of still work but not go to the edge of the screen.I finally figured out if I went to windows services I could restart from there. But generally my little Bamboo is great.( two of the little lights on it dont work now ! but I think the buttons still do, but I never use them anyway....)

Ok , I have searched high and low about this...well the internet....But not getting very much info. When I click on "Export Model and Textures" from the paint room, I get an option to export as FBX and some others. Does anyone know what this exports? I tried it with Carrara and all I seemed to get was the object, I was sought of expecting the textures, but also hoping for the Normal map. But carrara is not going to get any upgrades any time soon, so I guess that does not work. My current method of working is to export to carrara as OBJ then apply the textures and Normal maps by hand.( very easy to do in Carrara) Recently I have been having another look at Blender and its Cycles renderer.(Not installed it yet because all that node stuff , I no likey!) But I noticed recent updates Have included a FBX importer/exporter. I think FBX includes mocap stuff, bones etc. So why would 3dCoat need FBX? My holy grail at this point would be to export my painted model with normal maps into Blender and have it appear " all noded up" so to speak,so I can just worry about the render part and not so much applying textures. " Why dont you just have a go and see" I hear you shout. Well if some one says this is possible I will have a go and invest a few days looking into it. Just dont want to start doing node tutorials at the moment.( I struggled a bit with Normal maps and nodes a couple of years ago when I last had Blender installed.

Ha Ha ha cough cough choke.....and the hat tip goes to Mr Ranger. Yup that was it !!!! Thank you. And thanks to everyone who piped up, I knew I could count on you guys! I had a vague memory that you could hide items that you didnt need ....but the memory only returned after you said it. I tend to leave all my software at default settings cos its easier for me just to get back to that if something goes wrong. Though I did a reset on the interface initially but that does not seem to be connected to this. I dont think I would have hid that purposely, because it is one of the more useful tools. Thanks again.......now I feel dumber than I did yesterday...

Vox Layer..... Did there used to be a "Vox extrude" also? I am sure it was underneath vox layer, I cant find it ...is it called something else now? I just want to indent the surface ,but I am having to make a vox layer and subtract it,which does not always work properly. Capsule Primitive.... I tried altering "Cap 1 and "Cap 2" to a more pointy profile, but they stay half round spherical when applied. beta 15. ( just checked the help files....Vox extrude does exist......not going crazy......)

Thanks for the info AbnRanger! I think the amount of layers to merge was intimidating for me because in the past when I merged everything I tended to get an error ,so I now merge one at a time. I will give it ago. When I uninstanced everything all the nice pivot points on the objects all disappeared, which was mildly annoying....i'd finished the pose anyway so no great loss, but something to remember for next time. But after all that , I dont like where my picture is going....so back to the drawing board as they say....At least I have learnt stuff.
