New Member vazy Posted January 3, 2014 New Member Report Share Posted January 3, 2014 Hi, I'm new to 3DC, and loving it. Right now, I'm going through and doing some organic modeling tutorials, which I'm loving. I'm a long time Lightwave user and have used it to model organic and mechanical models. I'm finding it SUPER easy to create organic models in 3DC( vs Lightwave ). When I do organic model in LW, I'm super conscious of poly flow lines. In 3dc, not so much, b/c I can retopologize Though, I'm looking at the mech tutorials online for 3DC, and the OCD in me, doesn't like the non-exactness to them. (IE: entering in exact values, not eyeballing, etc) For example, making a tank in Lightwave, seems super easy to me vs 3DC. Am I alone in this thinking: 1. Organic modeling use 3DC 2. Mech modeling use Lightwave (or 3d package of your choice Maya, etc)
Advanced Member Aleksey Posted January 3, 2014 Advanced Member Report Share Posted January 3, 2014 yeah, 3DC is more like sculpting a tank out of clay... Not super precise. i feel the same way
Carlosan
As you can see there are users doing very good hard surface sculpt with the new tools implemented in 3DC_V4 http://3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?app=gallery&image=148 http://3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?app=gallery&image=87 http://3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=15442&hl= http://3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?app=gallery&image=55 http://3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?app=gallery&image=46 http://3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=15540&hl= I suppose users are very busy working and have no time to share workflows and to do any tutorials. Hope to see more users coming to our forum showing your work and helping with tutos. Regards !
Advanced Member Aleksey Posted January 3, 2014 Advanced Member Report Share Posted January 3, 2014 yeah i see some amazing work. And i can see myself using 3dcoat for modelling some parts of a hard surface model. But in general i think i would miss grid snapping, instancing and other handy features you get in poly modelling apps. Like modelling armour and stuff like that would def be easier with the help of 3d coat. But something like a tank.. I don't really see any advantages that 3d coat brings there. Advanced Member Denis Posted January 4, 2014 Advanced Member Report Share Posted January 4, 2014 yes you can, I did this using primitives and booleans. Right click on a layer and use subtract from another layer. It works.
