Advanced Member Denis Posted December 31, 2014 Advanced Member Share Posted December 31, 2014 OK. I've got this character made in 3DC. The only part that I have retopoed is the hat. What steps should I follow in order to paint this in Substance painter. PS Malo, I'll check out your video tomorrow.
Contributor Malo Posted December 31, 2014 Contributor Share Posted December 31, 2014 I would retopo it as it is. Disconnect some parts like the hat, gun and gunbelt and put it on a different uv set. Maybe you could split the body in more parts, too. Then baking and start texturing your IDs. You could use the fill tool on the UV map or paint it with a brush. Be aware, you get the best results with the pencil tool. Sure it is very hard, but you get the best colorspace with all strokes. The brush tool creates a smooth or fade out at the edges and you 100% red is 50% or less and you get bad results with an color ID.

Advanced Member Denis Posted January 12, 2015 Advanced Member Share Posted January 12, 2015 I have retopoed my mesh and have painted simple colors as you can see in the 2 screen captures below. I don't know what to do to send this to substance painter with all the different parts of the mesh showing on separate layers, so I can work on every individual part independently. It would be greatly appreciated if someone would spoonfeed me through the process.
