Member Aasmund Posted April 11, 2016 Member Report Share Posted April 11, 2016 Hi! When Im adding a new layer to the sample headbust, the main bust becomes gray and I cannot sculpt on it. I tried to re-arrange it on the top of the other layers, but that didnt work. What is wong?
Contributor Tony Nemo Posted April 11, 2016 Contributor Report Share Posted April 11, 2016 You can only model in the selected volume. In your case, the head bust could only serve as a guide for what you create in the new volume (it;s really not a layer).
Advanced Member Gary Dave Posted April 11, 2016 Advanced Member Report Share Posted April 11, 2016 Yeah, the easiest way to describe this is that you've created an empty layer and are trying to sculpt on an object that's in a different layer. There are some sculpting tools that work on empty layers, like blob or curves, but if you're trying to literally sculpt an object with things like like the draw/grow/move tools, then you need to be on the same layer as that object. Otherwise you're essentially asking something like the draw brush to draw on nothing.
Contributor Tony Nemo Posted April 11, 2016 Contributor Report Share Posted April 11, 2016 Thanks for the clarification, Dave. He could import a primitive and with the head ghosted, use all the other tools.
Member Aasmund Posted April 11, 2016 Author Member Report Share Posted April 11, 2016 So I all the tools dosent work when using layers?
Advanced Member Gary Dave Posted April 11, 2016 Advanced Member Report Share Posted April 11, 2016 The use of layers isn't the problem. It's what you have in them. The issue here is probably just your understanding of what layers are for. I recommend checking out the 3d coat youtube chanel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkj0Q5hTgsyROJU4dlNu0Mg and just learning the software. Contributor Tony Nemo Posted April 11, 2016 Contributor Report Share Posted April 11, 2016 Also, you wont find actual "layers" until you are ready to paint. Volumes don't function like layers (as you have already discovered).
