Ok so like the topic says...im brand new...as in...i just downloaded it an hour or so ago.

Im using the free demo atm...to try it out and see what i thought of it...seeing how I find Zbrush to be a pain....

I started a project...following along with a...half/half...tutorial i found on making a zombie....

I made my zombie...which sucked...but ok...i went thru the rendering to start painting....for some reason something i did was making the paint come out messed up...so i shut the program down...

Now heres the problem....

I went to start it right back up....it does....the screen appears for about...half a second...then it shuts down....

I cant start the program at all.

Now idk if the demo is limited to a one time use...which would suck and would be a bit retarded IMO...but thats ok....If so...stupid me i guess for shutting it down.....

But im hoping thats not the case and its just some kind of mess up.

Im running windows 7 64b if that helps any....

Ty all for any info on this....

Shadownian

P.s. so far i find this program alot more user friendly than zbrush...lol

Did you install Direct X after you initially installed 3D Coat? You need to follow that link during the 3DC install and install Direct X (9 is the one 3D Coat uses if I'm not mistaken), even though you may think Win 7 already comes with it (it may, but it is probably DX 11). Anyhow, the behavior you described sounds similar to the trouble I had when I first installed 3DC years ago. Once you've installed DX, you don't have to go through that again, every time you install a new build. It's just something you need to do the first time you install 3DC.

You may have been running the OpenGL version previously (which doesn't work that well compared to the DX compatible version), and when starting back up, clicked on the DX version. Not sure, but just thought I'd mention it. You could also go to "My Documents" > 3D Coat > and delete the options.xml file. Then re-install 3D Coat. Make sure you check the Updates thread and download the latest build from the first page of the thread.

First...ty for the reply....

I reinstalled the rpogram....figuring maybe it was the dx...i know i have the ltest dx 11...but wasnt sure on 9....but when i finished installing it comes to the screen where it asks you if you want to open it right there and then...so i tried...and it worked. Now i havent shut it back down since then...but as soon as i do ill repost here with the results. I also downloaded the dx9 as well just in case....

Ty again....

(fingers crossed)

Puzzling!, Are you running the program as admin? From memory some OS's will cause problems if not run as administrator. If you are the I don't know what else it could be.

I got it going...and yes...it was that i forgot to have it running in admin....figures...lol

But while i have your attention....is there a way to render out to a pic...like png or jpeg....or do i have to render out to (in my case) cinema 4d all the time...set it all up...then render that out to png...

Just a thought...

Anyway...ty all for the help...greatly appreciated

You will notice a RENDER tab next to the Voxel tab. There you can render out stills or even a turntable. Check the manual for info on how to get it going and what options you have. Shouldn't take but a few minutes to get a feel for what's there. It's not as full-featured as external applications, but in some cases it does a fine job.

Yep...figured it out...lol. Nice they have it in the program...cause it seems to look better inside the program itself.

My last few comments and questions i have after playing around with it for a bit yesterday are:

When painting....

The options for more/less in cavity dont seem to work for me so i end up just using normal airbrush for everything....

when trying to render a model that i have painted within the program...when switching over to the render screen all the paint becomes pixelated and looks like bad shadowing...so once I paint i cant render in program any more.

The render......

I found when I render out to another program like cinema 4d that alot of my edges are jagged and nasty looking.....

Besides those few problems im having...im loving this program....

I'm in the process of trying to model a dragon atm...still not use to all the tools just yet so ive been doing it all using the clay tool...lol

Thanx again all for being so patient with a newb...lol
