  1. probably should find a way to combine the sculpt with the surface mode, since they are both polygon modes. Tom
  2. It will be interesting to see how they plan on integrating this into the program, and how it fits in with the voxels. Tom
  3. Big news!! Posted: January 21, 2011 by farsthary in General Hi all! I have an exiting announcement to make: I’m joining Pilgway/3DCoat team!!!!! my Unlimited Clay efforts are higy appreciated by them and I will be collaborating to integrate dynamic subdivision sculpting in 3DCoat. 3DCoat (http://www.3d-coat.com/) is a leading sculpting application in the bleeding edge of volumetric sculpting and retopology and I’m becoming part of the core team!!!!!!!! I thanks everyone at the Blender community because one way or another you have taken myself to this point and who knows what could bring the future? For my loyal Blender followers that can be fear of myself leaving Blender developemnt I must say: Don’t be afraid! At first I was a concerned by the possibility of a restrictive NDA, but nothing more far from reality! Pilgway/3DC team is like the Blender team very cool, open and collaborative guys ! ofcourse I can continue blender development and your beloved Unlimited Clay now and in the future I’m pretty exited because many new things will await us all in the future and also with everyone and God’s help I will carry you all in my heart to my new 3D family, the 3DC team respects a lot the Blender community and with blender becoming mainstream there’s no better time to meet the marriage: I will be a Blender embassador in 3DCoat and a 3DCoat embassador in Blender so this blog wellcomes 3DCoat users as well as Blender ones! Exiting times await! And as I always said: I have the will and the interest and I will do my best to fullfill the responsability and expectations everyone are investing in me All the best Farsthary Bombastic News!!!!! unlimited clay Tom
  4. There is also the sketch feature. sketch It won't give you a head, but it could help give you something to start from. using profile images Tom
  5. Those 3d magazines always seem to have pretty weak reviews. never seem to go into much depth. The pictures they show are always the same pictures that come from the software's own website or sample scenes. You never get the feeling that the reviewer really spent much time with the software and did anything on their own with it. Tom
  6. It would be helpful if you posted links explaining what you're talking about. Tom
  7. Are you in orthographic mode? probably project better if you were. Tom
  8. Yes, was thinking of this also. it would be nice to have a node based procedural texture creator. I love the fill tool but it would be better if there was more ability to modify or create new textures. Tom
  9. Yes, I can see you aren't. you've made that abundantly obvious. .Who here said they wanted things to be complicated? I don't remember reading anyone requesting that. people want a variety of tools so that THEY can choose what works for them . Not so that YOU can choose for them. These same people are also the people who go onto other forums and talk about 3d-coat and tell other people to try it. Tom
  10. No I don't think I agree. I believe in elegance of design. Complexity and simplicity rolled into one. I'm not into doing things the old fashion way just to be nostalgic. If there is a tool that is more efficient for me, then that's what I want to use. The only problem is the few tools that you want will not be the same few tools the next guy wants. The way one person does something will never be the same way someone else does it. If all they want is a lump of clay. Give them a lump of clay. Let them sculpt that lump, then they can give it to the computer guy with the laser scanner. Problem solved. Tom
  11. I disagree. A great artist will make great art no matter what. Chop off his arms and he'll use his feet. people get very particular about which software they think is best. That's fine. Everyone wants to use tools that they feel suits them best. But I also think the better artist using the inferior tools will make better art than the inferior artist using the best tools. I also think we have some incredible tools available today no matter what type of art interests you. Tom
  12. I like it! That would be perfect for custom texturing in the fill tool. No seams. Tom
  13. I know it's been mentioned but it didn't seem to get the attention it deserves. VOIDWORLD is a polygon modeler under development. It has a built in 3d_Coat applink. The website looks cheesy but ignore that. Don't download from the site. download here: VOIDWORLD Don't know if this is the only place to get info, but get the latest on it's development here: My linkhttp://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=74005&page=20 Doesn't need to be installed. Just run the .exe Create a model, then go up to file, 3d-coat applink looks quite nice. He seems to be working hard to make a nice program. Tom
  14. The word "Transparency" on the top of the screen in paint room really needs to be called "opacity". The 100% percent value doesn't correspond to 100% transparency. it corresponds to opacity. this would also make it match the terminology used in the layer panel where the same thing is called opacity. Also, the help tip that pops up for the transparency adjustment doesn't look right. It says " select a mask for applying color or depth" Tom
  15. Yeah, I do. But this thread has gone way off topic. Tom
  16. It's absolutely possible to 3d-print in full color! That's my face. Mini you Tom
  17. I think this was mentioned somewhere here before. Colored voxels would be possible, but adding a color value to each voxel would add tremendously to the memory required for that voxel object. Think about it. Right now a voxel is either on or off. one BIT. If it had color it would also have to have 24 BITs to describe the color of that particular voxel. I'm sure things could be compressed in a similar way that a bitmap is compressed. but even so. It's a lot more information to keep track of for an object. Also, how would you color a volume if you painted on it's surface? How far down would the color penetrate? This advantage only applies to the separation of the initial creative process from the later inevitable technical process. Voxels doesn't free you from polygons, it just pushes them farther down the process pipeline. Tom
  18. A voxel object doesn't have any fixed surface there to paint. It would be like painting on a clay sculpture before the clay was dry. as soon as you did anything to your sculpture it would screw up the paintjob. what would be the point? Tom
  19. I would imagine it could be very confusing to a new user not knowing the names have been changed to see something in the manual that doesn't match what they see on the screen. Here are some things I noticed that need to be changed: The brushes used to be called pens but there are still references to pens. In the preferences panel there is a section that deals with brushes but sometimes calls them pens. Hide pens with cap lock Show pen shape curve Show pen alpha texture The next four items use the word brush, yet if you hover your mouse for the help text, it says pen. then it has: message above pen message below pen Tom
  20. I've never used it, But I've seen what it's capable of. Big Buck Bunny is awsome. Everybody has their opinions about what software is best, but the fact is, the software we have available to the artist today, is really pretty mind blowing. It's really just up to a person's own skill and imagination as to what is possible. Tom
  21. Are you saying Micky Mouse lost his tail? Tom
  22. I even had to go here to see if the voice matched. Discovery Channel/How-It's-Made Tom
