  1. I was adding layers in the paint room and hit the 7 layer limit on the number of layers I could open. I got a nice popup that listed the limitations of the EDU version. There was one on the list that isn't on the buy-now page. That is, "you can't export 32 bit displacement maps". Is this true? It would explain why I was having all those problems exporting my displacement maps. If true why is it not listed on the buy-now page? When I was trying to export 32bit displacements I didn't get any popups or warning messages.
  2. The more I play with this model the less I like it. It looks like the surface normals are all messed up. I can go into Blender and fix each poly, which would be a nightmare, but doable. I'm not sure if there is anything else that could be done as there is no order to which poly is inside out and which is right side out. Is there a tool in 3D-Coat to fix these? I did a search but nothing came up. I just need a way to flip the normals so they point correctly. Thanks, Jason
  3. Thank you so much for your patience Malo. It works great! I was getting hung up on the textures not being auto-loaded, I did not expect to have to manually load them. Jason
  4. Thanks Malo, I will take a look at this tonight when I get home from work. I may have to end up using Blender if 3D-Coat can't read the files in. I like 3D-Coat's UV unwrapping better, although maybe I can unwrap it in 3D-Coat and bring it into Blender and then do the bake?
  5. I just wanted to say a big thank you to the developers on how quickly the updated versions for Linux and MacOS are coming out. It's awesome, thank you! Jason
  6. Thanks Malo!! The problem is that 3D-Coat will not load the texture in. I have have tried many different ways to do it and have not been able to get it to work. I have tried to load the obj and fbx directly, and I have tried to load it in through the Blender app-link but it doesn't apply the textures in either case. But each time I get the error message and it takes a long time to load. Unless there is another way that I'm missing? Jason
  7. I found a way to do it in Blender, I'm really surprised that 3D-Coat doesn't have the ability to do this. http://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/15510/possible-to-bake-texture-to-new-uv-map Jason
  8. I need some advice, how would you handle this in 3D-Coat? I have been looking at purchasing models and repurposing them for my projects. I keep coming across models that have been textured with heavy overlapping UV textures. When I import them into 3D-Coat the textures do not come in at all and I get the following error: The square of UV set is too big. It may mean that UV set is incorrect or tiled too much. It may lead to long loading time or crash because of lack of memory. We recommend you use auto-mapping and then use UV tools to create correct UV set. It comes into Blender ok and renders in Octane as you can see here: I'm trying to bring it in to paint some more on it but would like to start with the current texture. I'm thinking that having overlapping UVs like that will cause all sorts of trouble. Is there any way I can have both worlds? Is there a way in 3D-Coat where I can, maybe add another UV set, and then bake the current one to it? Jason
  9. I like the eye candy, but as long as it's functional it probably doesn't matter. It may not be as functional, but Blender's interface looks much better than any other software package I have used. (I haven't used Modo, so it might be the exception) Jason
  10. I was playing around with the smart materials and had some questions. Can you use AO to control the texture conditionals? I know you can pull in an image to control them, does this mean I need to save the AO to a file before I can use it? Thanks, Jason
  11. Excellent! Thanks! I'm assuming that this would be version 4.5.10? I just tried 4.5.9 and it was still broken. Jason
  12. Thanks carrots, I did some more testing, but your suggestion didn't help. It doesn't happen with all of the materials, just some of them. I'm not sure what the combination is that causes the error. Here is an example: This is after I painted a large part of the chair seat. Thanks, Jason
  13. I have the same issue on the 4.5.08 Linux version, I was thinking that maybe it was because of an older version of the smart materials that is causing it? Bump and gloss would work but the color would come out grey and very dark. I haven't looked into to it very much though. Jason
  14. I haven't had any issues with OpenCL on my GTX460 (although I run on Linux). From the error it definitely looks like a driver issue, as it looks like it can't find the OpenCL libs. Is there a way to specify which GPU to run on? I have two, so it would be nice to be able to choose my other one that I don't use for the displays.
  15. Isn't 4.5 still Beta? I think if you need stability than you should use 4.1 or an earlier stable version.
  16. I had a similar issue, the normal map could not be modified. I saved the file and restarted 3D-Coat and it started working again. ?? It hasn't happened again so I'm not sure what the problem was?
  17. I have been looking forward to this release, especially OpenVDB, OpenSL, etc. Yep, Octane has been able to render hair since version 2.0.
  18. As I'm using 3D-Coat more and more, one thing that keeps bugging me (more and more ), is that when I open a directory it defaults to the standard 3D-Coat dir. This is usually just a problem when I first start up 3D-Coat, once I load some files it remembers the location (very nice). Is there a way to tell 3D-Coat which directory to look in first? For instance I have a 'projects' directory that has all my current projects. It would be nice if there was a way for 3D-Coat to default to it. Or am I missing a setting somewhere? Thanks, Jason
  19. Lots of cool stuff: http://www.blender.org/
  20. I'm pretty sure that x86 only means that it's Intel compatible. Making a 32bit CPU in this day and age would be very strange, given that they can only support 4 GBytes of memory, or less.
  21. Will there be a Linux version? Also will this be integrated into 3D-Coat at some point? Thanks, and it's looking good.
  22. It looks like the cutoff tool doesn't work when you have ghosting turned on in voxel mode. Is this a known issue or is it a bug? I have gotten it to kind of work by hitting the 'g' key positioning the pointer, hitting 'g' again, start the cut, hit 'g' again, position to the end of the cut, hit 'g' again and then finish the cut. Or am I doing something wrong? Thanks,
