Repositioning the Symmetry Axis...

Hi fellow 3DCoaters :D

I am newb and I have the Trial Version 3.7 16a (the newest one) and

I absolutely luv 3D COAT. I have much to learn. I have much enthusiasm.

I am primarily interested in using it to sculpt concept ideas,

using the 3DCOAT 3D sculpts as blueprints/references to then sculpt them

from 2 Part Epoxy or Clay and have castings made of them.

I have a question about the Symmetry Axis.

I find myself getting into trouble sometimes if my Voxel Model needs to be

repositioned because the Symmetry Axis are not where I want them after I have

begun a sculpt.

I would like to reposition the sculpt so the Axis and more importantly the Symmetry Panels line up where I want.

Is it possible to do this after a model has been loaded and started?

To clearify, and as an example, I have a sculpt that started freeform, just practicing with nothing

particuliar in mind, and it became some anatomy as the upper body of a female...

Well, unfortunately, it ended up being sideways and not centered on the Y Axis. :(

Like I mentioned, I was just practicing trying out various brushes and features

and I ended up learning some cool stuff and freeforming something

when I noticed the Model was not centered on the Y Axis.

This led to my trying to get the model centered on the Y Axis...with newb-like results.

I can reposition the Model using the Transform Tool, getting it to line up with the Axis

the way I want, and I tried resetting the Symmetry Panels...

but nothing I've tried is working.

The Axis Panels do not line up. :(

I just can't figure it out.

...or is your Model locked into whatever Axis position it loaded in on,

and there is no way to reposition the Model/Axis after the fact?

Thanks for the help.

You can try to reset space under the Transform tool's options. Plus reset axis if necessary...

If everything is lined back up ok. Then under the symmetry menu (top menu) unlock your symmetry plane if you want to reposition it.

Hold down the tab key and hover your cursor over the object, now you can reposition the symmetry plane.

Once done be sure to lock your symmetry plane again...

Thanks Digman.

I can do those things, my issue is that I cannot reposition the Symmetry Plane(s)

to reline up with a NEW Symmetry Axis position.

They seem to be only lined up with the positions when I originally loaded the Model.

That is, no matter how I move the Model, those Axis/Panels stay in the same position on the Model.

(I have the Symmetry Lock OFF).

What I am trying to do is reposition the Symmetry Axis and the Planes that can be moved along those Axis

using the TAB key in a way like I would be if I could use the Transform Tool on the entire Symmetry Axis and Planes themselves, without moving the Model.

In other words, I just want to reposition the entire Symmetry Axis/Panels on my Model.

Or, another way to look at it, I want to reposition my Model to line up with the Symmetry Axis/Planes

I have repositioned.

For example, in the image in my opening post above, I want to reposition the Red Symmetry Plane

(and by default, the entire Symmetry Axis and Planes so it is on the X Axis,

as I have it newly positioned...it would then evenly split the Model in half from top to bottom.

Is it even possible?

Thanks for any help. I hate being so newb. :(

I do not think is it possible to realign the model's local space symmetry axis the way you stated or want to in 3DCoat...

Voxel room is local space

Retopo room is world space

The above is for your information as this is very important to know for when using the auto-retopo feature. Transform (move) your object on the x axis, switch to the retopo room and you will see what I mean.

Edit: I removed part of my statement as I think I was somewhat incorrect.

i dont understood very well but...

you like to be back to default axis symmetry orientation keeping the sculpted/rotated voxel object position ?

make a new voxel layer

take the original layer and select with RMB MOVE TO the new layer
