Crash on Startup(with bug log)

I've submitted this via the bug report already, however I figured why not post it here as well. I recently bought 3D-Coat via steam, the version I'm running is 3.7.18S I believe and I'm running it 64bit with DirectX and Cuda, however it says all that in the bug report. The crash happens almost instantly after starting up 3D-Coat, the bug report didn't exactly give the log much formatting but I made it a little bit more readable, personally I can't gather the source of the crash from the log, so any help will be appreciated.

Hi!

Without knowing your systems specs it's more of a shot in the dark - But I've seen this with a few other folks that have purchased 3DC from Steam - Does your computer have an ATi video card? If so, that is the root of the error and using 3DC without CUDA will do the trick.

If that's not the cause, please definitely let us know your system specs and we'll try to solve this. :)

PS - There is a more recent build, too, in case you're interested it can be found at this URL:

Sorry about that, I have an nvidia 9800 gtx+, when I first bought it I was running it normally however when I realized that it supported CUDA I started using it for hopefully improved performance, I didn't really notice a change though, not that I ever really had lag problems to begin with. I was suspecting the crash could be a lack of ram, but if this can be ran 32 bit fine then I see no reason 64 bit with 2gb of ram would be a problem. But here's a DxDiag.txt :D

I will try out the more recent build, hopefully I will have more luck.

Hi!

The 9800 was the very first card to have CUDA support, but to what extent that it forward supports CUDA I am unaware. I read some statistical info on it, and it says the 9800 series supports up to CUDA 1.1, but I am not sure that is entirely correct (it could just be official support, because obviously it still works up to a point).

I'm glad the latest version works! I am awaiting an answer from Andrew on how to retrieve licenses from Steam, but if it's anything like if you purchase from a reseller or Pilgway, it would be in your email (not sure on Steam purchases).

The crash still happens when I run without CUDA though. and my email was the first place I looked, I did find something interesting listed as DLC in my steam library for 3D-Coat, it said something like "3D-Coat Users License" but there was no way I could view it or even interact with it .-.

Normally on steam games that have CD-Keys list the CD-Key and all the CD-Keys for any DLC on start-up, however it doesn't seem they've added anything like that for serials to the newly added 'software' library of steam.

Was you able to run 3D-Coat at least once? I see it crashes while trying to load user defied pen made via curves. By default such objects are not present in installation folder.

You may get your key to be able to test new beta versions in a bit tricky way:

run Regedit.exe via start menu, Edit->Find, type SteamKey

The key value is what you may use in regular 3D-Coat version.

Yeah, I was able to run it for a while, I made one or two curve pens on one of the first days of using it, however I don't think I've done any since then.

Found the key! Thank you, I think I prefer to use the beta version now. But, I think I've found the user made pen files in "C:\Users\{Username}\Documents\3D-CoatV3\textures\patterns" I deleted a few .curv files and their matching files with names that look familiar, I'll test it out later.

Does deleting pens in textures\patterns\*.curv helped to be able to run 3DC again?

Yes! Previously I had looked in the textures\patterns folder in my installation and found nothing, but the one in the 3D-CoatV3 folder found in Documents had the corrupt user-defined curve pens (Guess I won't play with Curve too much anymore .-. ) After deleting them 3d-coat works like a charm :3
