philnolan3d
I think I might just not understand them, I've used them all I think. I was even around for beta testing Simple Skin (and Fast Skin before it). I used to use Worley's G2 plugin and it was fantastic, it was really simple and it looked great. I also just have trouble wrapping my head around nodes in general. I never have any idea what will happen when I use what node, so I have no idea which one to use for what. Javis
Nice turntable. I hear you, G2 is swank. No doubts. I remember when they introduced the SSS nodes, they were a tad wonky, but they have come a long way! The only thing to keep in mind; Values. They must be relative to the scale of your object. Default values never cut it.
philnolan3d
Digital777: Thanks! geothefaust: So I'm playing with the SSS 2 node and it seems to be working OK, but I'm trying to figure out what sub-dermal color to use. I started by tweaking my main color map to be a reddish-orange color and it looked weird against the green skin. So I thought maybe I should instead just make a darker green with maybe a purplish hint (which ends up more blue) and it still looks kinda weird to me. Javis
Nice! That's looking pretty good. For your SSS, I would paint a texture map specifically for the sub-dermal layer, using colors you would/should be there. Then use an image node and plug it into the input of the sub-dermal layer on your SSS node. Or just pick one that is close to what you think would/should be there. That would give a close approximation.
philnolan3d
Thanks currently my sub-dermal image looks like this, though 4096 size.

philnolan3d
That image was actually used in the last renders I posted. You can see the reddish color in the ears. Thanks anyway though.
Javis
Ahh sure enough. On closer inspection I can see it. Plan to take it any further?
philnolan3d
Yes actually I've decreased the SSS as it was looking a little waxy and also I sculpted in some finer wrinkles and added some more color variety to the skin. I've made new renders twice today but both times my computer as crashed before I had a chance to save them. Will update when I eventually get them rendered again and saved.
