[SOLVED] 3.2.08 - Unable to import STL data for "Per Pixel Painting"

Recommended Posts

3.2.08 - CUDA 64bit Win7

Hello.

I have exported a STL model out of 3DC and then tried to import it back to 3DC. I tried to use it as a per pixel painting object.

It was impossible to reimport the model. 3DC freezed.

Any ideas?

Attached the used model.

Best wishes

Chris

More infos:

I have imported the exported STL file from 3DC into the small tool "MiniMagics" (Freeware), to check the model.

It seems that 3D Coat doesn't export the whole model, but several polygons only.

Please check this. I need the STL export for interchange my models between different tools.

Thank you

Chris

I will fix it in next build but now you can easily fix it manually.

Open STL file in text editor. How it looks now:

solid

outer loop

facet normal -0.333726 -0.243567 -0.910660

vertex -7.843089 1.364006 -2.740664

vertex -7.730649 0.105037 -2.437925

vertex -8.353742 0.076765 -2.209239

vertex -8.427097 1.214144 -2.479345

endloop

endfacet

..........

How it should look:

solid ABC

outer loop

facet normal -0.333726 -0.243567 -0.910660

vertex -7.843089 1.364006 -2.740664

vertex -7.730649 0.105037 -2.437925

vertex -8.353742 0.076765 -2.209239

vertex -8.427097 1.214144 -2.479345

endloop

endfacet

..........

There was missed name of the object.

Hi.

I made the modifications and 3D Coat is able to load the model, now.

But one problem still exists, and makes it impossible to share the model with my clients:

When I try to load the modified STL model into the STL viewer "MiniMagics", the program tells me, that there are still bugs. Furthermore I see polygon holes in the mesh inside MiniMagics.

Any idea?

Best wishes

Chris

Hello.

Yesterday I've send the 3DC-exported and corrected STL model to a client. The client checked the file in three different programs. No program could read the exported STL file from 3D Coat correctly! There were errors like "negative dimensions" or "bad normal lines" and a third message, that he didn't explained in detail. I asked them to send me the errors in detail, if possible as log files and tell me the tools, they used.

I wait for the infos and will post them here, if possible.

Best wishes

Chris
