Member scotth Posted October 5, 2010 Member Report Share Posted October 5, 2010 I'm practicing some retopology (on a simple cube with a dent) and was moving along with the points&faces when suddenly the program stopped recognizing new points. No matter what i did (placing various points in various locations) the program refused to connect to newly placed points and would even try to jump to a different side of the cube for a connection, bypassing a point that would have made an easy quad. Not sure if I accidently hit a key or something... Even saved. Exited. And reloaded. But the tool still doesn't want to work! No idea what I did. Help! philnolan3d
I recently posted this as a bug, hopefully it gets fixed soon. As a work-around I just use quads for a few polys then I can usually go back to P&P and it's fine.
Member scotth Posted October 5, 2010 Author Member Report Share Posted October 5, 2010 Thanks Phil. Good to know I wasn't being a complete idiot. I will try your work-around and continue.
Member scotth Posted October 11, 2010 Author Member Report Share Posted October 11, 2010 Unfortunately, since having trouble with the Points & Faces tool in the Retopo room a few days ago, the ability to use this tool has not returned. Having quit and restarted 3D Coat numerous times since then and working on a variety of models and such has not restored its function. This is becoming a bit frustrating. Any thoughts? You'd think quitting and restarting the program would simply reset whatever has gone wrong. Hope this will be addressed soon. Otherwise, a great program and I will have to use the Quad tool in its place for now.
philnolan3d
So you can't use it at all? For me it just happens once in a while.
Member scotth Posted October 11, 2010 Author Member Report Share Posted October 11, 2010 I can place the points but 3DC will not fill in between 4 no matter what. Even tried it on a cube to be sure I wasn't just working on too odd a surface. Are there any settings I am missing for the Points & Faces tool that I could have somehow messed up? Very odd. Guess I may have to re-install the program. Hope that won't count against me as one of my installations.
philnolan3d
No if you're just using the trial, I'm sure you can install again, in fact trial users have installed the latest updates without any problem.

Or it happens only over your object in scene? If only on your object in scene, I need 3B file to reproduce and fix it.
Member scotth Posted October 11, 2010 Author Member Report Share Posted October 11, 2010 I do have the full program V 3.5.00A running in DX (though I have switched back to GL mode to be sure and neither is working). To be clear, the "Points and Faces" tool was working fine for the first several days after purchasing the program. This problem happens on any mesh. If I start 3D Coat and choose one of the basic objects for Voxel sculpting, hit enter to set the object, then go to the Retopo room with that object, setting four points does nothing. The points are there but 3DC does not try to connect them. I can create a dozen points and get no connections between them. I can also right click and move points. Just no connections. Edit: I just went back into 3DC and got the points & faces tool to work again. This may be a coincidence... I read philnolan3d's post in the bugs area and saw he was also getting the pointer acting as a line rather than a circle following the face of the object. Even though there are no right click and drag functions for this tool, I tried it (right click & drag for size) and suddenly the circle was following the face again. AND 3DC was recognizing my points! Like I said, don't know if it is just a coincidence but my Points & Faces tool is now working again!
