  1. Thanks! I'm debating putting hair on him, but not sure yet. Now, you get back to making more videos! lol Greg
  2. Hi, Thought I'd post this strange little cartoon guy I've worked on today. I don't really have any purpose for him, other than fun. I am going to retopo and paint him though. Thanks for looking. Greg
  3. Nice video! I really hope you do more. Greg P.S. What are you doing reading this? Go! Do more videos!
  4. Yes, I'd try another site. It may be nothing but my browser blocked the download page saying it's harmful. It has done that on other sites though that I know there's nothing wrong with. Who knows... Greg P.S. Looks to me like you're on the right track now with your retopo. Much better! The only area I see wrong is the upper right corner with the 5 sided ngons. I'm guessing you're still working that area though. Other than that it's looking great!
  5. That looks really interesting. Thanks for posting the link! Greg
  6. That's a good saying for this! "The advice given in the 'don't look...' proverb is: when given a present, be grateful for your good fortune and don't look for more by examining it to assess its value." I'm happy to hear that it is available to the countries you've listed. Thirteen months seems like a really good amount of time to find if you like a software enough to buy it or not, and definitely long enough to evaluate if you can/want to learn it. And, like you said, it may actually be renewable.
  7. I've done a few renders up to 3000 x 3000 size and there's no watermark that I can see. I suppose that even if there was, the main purpose is to allow people to learn the software, so no big deal. Sorry to hear it's USA only - I'd mentioned that I was unsure about that. Greg
  8. Hey all, I know times are tough for a lot of us, so thought I'd mention this. This week I found out Autodesk is offering free software - (you can't use it commercially though) to people who are either a student, unemployed or a veteran. I fit into at least one of those categories, and signed up. All went well and I got licenses for Maya the same day. I already had a 3ds max license. I'm mainly a Lightwave user, but never hurts to learn a new package, especially for free. And, it's not restricted to just one of their packages - they list 25 on the site. http://students.autodesk.com/?nd=assistance_home Also, if you're an unemployed web developer or student (don't think this offers is for veterans, but you could ask), Adobe offers Flash Builder 4 Standard (once again for non-commercial use). They say it can take up to 2 weeks to get license, but download the trial version (60 days) and go for it. http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/free/ Sorry if this is old news, but it wasn't to me. Just passing this along for what it may be worth to any of you. I live in the U.S. and don't know if it applies to friends in other countries or not. Greg P.S. If you're an unemployed veteran who is also a student, maybe you can download each 3 times.
  9. Thanks for the good words Don. I would love to see more people do tutorials too. I'm like a junkie when it comes to watching them, and always learn a little more. And, I know exactly what you're talking about as far as using the least amount of polygons. When I started out, I would create so many I pretty much painted myself into a corner with them. I'm still not what I would consider good by any means, but I have definitely learned that 'less is best'. Greg
  10. It looks like the retopo is coming along really well to me. Please be sure to post it when finished. Greg
  11. Don, that's coming along really well. Did you do the helmet all in 3d Coat? To me there's something a little funky with the shirt at this point, but I realize it's a work in progress! Keep posting! Greg
  12. That bird is too funny! I'd love to see it animated. Good going! Greg
  13. You are so gonna love that tablet once you get used to it. I just use the standard nib, and have never needed to replace it, but nice to have extras just in case. Didn't like the felt tip, but that's just a matter of preference. They're easy to change, so try them all! Greg
  14. I really love characters like that, and think that bird looks great, and fun! Good job with the modeling and coloring. Polyxo's advise is right on target. Start low poly and only increase when needed. AND, it took me a while to get the hang of the curve tools too. At first I was like "What the #$@@!???" ! Thanks for watching the videos, and posting your work! Greg
  15. I may have been in a previous life, but in this life I couldn't even learn to swim. lol. I took lessons as a child and sunk like a stone. I'll have to get an avatar soon though, you're right. Greg
  16. Beautiful work! That looks like a place I would love to be on this hot summer day! Greg
  17. Thanks! That's always great to hear. People rarely comment on Vimeo for some reason (I've noticed that on most peoples videos, even videos from some of our 3D 'legends' such as Taron), so I always wonder if anyone is getting anything from them! I learned a lot about 3D Coat while making them too, so nice that it is win-win. Greg
  18. Hi, Yeah, I love those sky pictures, so post more! And yes, please feel free to use the picture in your thread. I didn't create the terrain tutorial though. My tutorial is about creating the ghost character. I do cover retopo in it though. I've watched the terrain tutorial and think it's great. Greg
  19. Hi All, My name is Greg and I've done too many different things in my life to list them all! lol I live a little outside of Nashville, TN. After a very long time in the military, I got a job as an airbrush artist for Big Dog Motorcycles in Wichita, KS. While there I began studying 3d and digital design. Since then I've worked as a digital design instructor, web/multimedia designer and most recently flash game programmer/designer. My primary interest through all of this has been in 3D, and think this is a great time for us, with fantastic programs like 3D Coat within financial reach of most people. I buy way too much software, and will probably never be able to retire! I've got a great wife, a spoiled little Maltese dog, and life is good! Nice to meet you all.
  20. Too bad you can't go compare tablets, but I have. The intuos is far superior in capability and performance. Actually, even a used intuos 3 is great, and cheaper if price is at all an issue. Greg
  21. Looking great so far. Keep us updated. Greg
  22. No, I hadn't noticed it. Thanks! I've bookmarked this, and gonna tweet about it Greg
  23. That really is very useful. I like the inner/outer button. Thanks for sharing this! Greg
