Im a brand new owner of 3d coat, and i have been attempting to download the extras kindly given from http://3dcoat.com/download/#1 under the resources area, the only issue im finding, is it is creating folders inside the smart materials tab after installing (file -> install extension -> selected file) but inside the folders are nothing, the materials are not there, yet the folders under smart materials have been created. what is the procedure to get these smart materials downloaded from 3D coat themselves into 3D coat correctly? Cheers
  2. What is the best way to export and set up "Smart Materials" texture to Maya with no PBR support? For example I have a metal object and want to get as close as I can to the beautiful PBR smartmaterials results that I see in 3D-coat. If someone could write a quick tutorial on this that would be awesome! For now I'm just going to have to experiment a lot in Maya to try and get same results. This is for production so it I don't have much time to experiment. Thanks! Daniel

    Stretching/warping on seam?

    Hi all I'm trying to use a smart material to add fabric to my mesh clothing, but for some reason around the seams of the uv map I'm getting this odd light colour/stretching and wondered if anyone would have any idea why. The uv map works fine for textures in other programs but not 3d coat for some reason. Picture attached. Any ideas welcome, thanks.
  5. Is there a way to use Substance Smart Materials in 3DCoat? SP and 3DC both save Smart Materials, but both use different file names, is there a known way to use Smart Materials created in one software with the other?

  12. For some reason, whenever I paint with a metal smart material, it paints black. What is going on?
  13. Hello! I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am somewhat new to 3d coat, and I was using the smart materials, messing around with the settings and what not as I was trying to learn how to create my own with edge scattering and layer effects... While doing this, I messed up one of the preset (well a couple) Smart Materials. I lost the textures and then I hit restore and lost everything. I was wondering if there was a way to get the loaded smart materials back? If this is confusing, I am sorry! Almost 2 am here! Thanks in advance.

I thought I would try creating my first Smart Material (kevlar carbon fiber) and I applied the images, which seem to look fine in the preview thumbnail, but when I apply the smart material to an object, the pattern is scaled up so large that you cannot even tell what it is supposed to be. How can I scale the smart material pattern up and down and save that in the material settings? Thanks, Bryson

As I understand it, 3D-Coat supports three different PBR workflows: Gloss/Color Specular Gloss/Metalness Roughness/Metalness So it seems to me that the Smart Material Editor only represents Gloss/Metalness when viewing the inputs. Where are the map input types for the other workflows in the Smart Material Editor? I am really confused by how this is all supposed to work.

Hello all, loving 3DCoat's new Smart (PBR) Materials but we have stumbled across a scenario where we needed to make a new Layer that would change the Depth, Roughness, Metalness only but not add any Colour. Is this possible. If not I think we'll need to add a suggestion to include an opacity slider (parameter) to the colour slot. thanks.
