Member Vii Posted April 28, 2013 Member Share Posted April 28, 2013 Hi, Is there a way for me to freeze parts of a mesh based off their UV patches? Cheers

Member Vii Posted April 28, 2013 Author Member Share Posted April 28, 2013 Am I missing something? That doesn't seem to have anything to do with what I asked :/

Contributor ajz3d Posted April 29, 2013 Contributor Share Posted April 29, 2013 Maybe pieces of geometry that are separate entities, like UV islands are, but in 3D space? Like in patch modelling? Meaning: sub-objects, objects, meshes? Could you elaborate a little bit, Vii?
Member Vii Posted April 29, 2013 Author Member Share Posted April 29, 2013 There's nothing to elaborate on. I have UVs for my mesh, I want to freeze based on those UV patches. I don't know what's difficult to understand about that sorry.
Carlosan
ah ok UVPatches = UVSets If you import a model with multiples UVsets, and every set have their own material, the Materials can be blocked, the pic was linked in the previous post. Member Vii Posted April 30, 2013 Author Member Share Posted April 30, 2013 No... UV Patches are NOT UV sets... I don't understand what needs explaining. I have a UV for the head, that's one patch, I have a UV for the body, that's another.
Advanced Member puntoit Posted April 30, 2013 Advanced Member Share Posted April 30, 2013 I think vii is trying to yell us that the term UV patches are meant UV islands. If you would have a solid color per UV island on a separate paint layer these layers can be used for freezing through right clicking on it. Contributor TimmyZDesign Posted April 30, 2013 Contributor Share Posted April 30, 2013 This is how to do it: 1. In the Paint Room Layers panel, hide all of your layers except for Layer 0. That is because there should be no paint, depth, or specularity information on Layer 0. (You can ALT-click on the eyeball icon on Layer 0 to do this quickly.) (If you did accidentally paint on Layer 0, then create a new layer and fill that layer with a single color. To fill that new layer quickly, you can use the Fill Tool, and choose "Layer". Then hide all other layers except for that newly created layer.) 2. Go to the Textures menu at the top of the screen (still in the Paint Room). Click on "Texture UV Editor". You will see the UVs for your model appear in the "Texture editor" panel. 3. Select the Magic Wand tool. 4. Use the Magic Wand tool to click on a UV Island (you are calling them UV patches). You will see that the UV island (UV patch) is now completely frozen. 5. Repeat step 4 until you have frozen everything you want.
Member Vii Posted May 2, 2013 Author Member Share Posted May 2, 2013 Thanks Timmy. I had no clue what 3D coat called them, but UV patches is a lot more common :P
