Member Flippers Posted September 18, 2014 Member Report Share Posted September 18, 2014 i dont understand whats going on when i press Shift+lmb. some brushes smooth exactly as i'd expect in zbrush, some other brushes smooth and its totally unnoticeable? i'm coming from zbrush, this may be normal for 3d coat? i'm really confused. i want my brushes to smooth a LOT when i press shift lmb. whats up with this? appreciate any info. cheers
Advanced Member Hammers Posted September 19, 2014 Advanced Member Report Share Posted September 19, 2014 +1 from me. However the smoothing is calculated in both Voxels and Surface is really unpredictable for me. I believe it has something to do with resolution and maybe scale. I've been working in scale of 50.0 to link to Blender more easily, and many times shift-smooth as well as the smooth tool are almost useless.. Would love to hear if there's a workflow solution here. Carlosan
Are you working at voxel or surface mode ? At surface there is smooth, pow smooth, Tsmooth... which are you using ?

Member Flippers Posted September 19, 2014 Author Member Report Share Posted September 19, 2014 nah, some brushes seem to do absolutey nothing. other brushes work just fine. i'm still learning 3d coat. totally new to the program. this just seems very odd to me its working like this. Carlosan
in every brush that do nothing, check the alpha smoothing and stroke used at voxel mode, layer density is a BIG factor less density = smooth more powerful Accurate Smoothing ON helps too
Contributor TimmyZDesign Posted September 19, 2014 Contributor Report Share Posted September 19, 2014 Try turning on "CUDA smooth boost" (if you are using an NVIDIA graphics card with CUDA capability). ...Also smoothing is better done in surface mode because you can reduce the number of surface polygons in a specific area with the "Reduce" or "Decimate" SHIFT function, and then hit it next with the "Powerful Smoothing" function for example.
